Would a half-day hurt my chances?

At my school, we have Co-op class that allows us to leave campus after 5th pd to work at a job a long as we are employed. A family friend is offering me a part-time job at a local physician's office. I'd probably just be doing filing and vital signs, that kind of stuff I guess. Would taking a half-day hurt my chances of getting into a good school?

My course list would look like this (Senior year)
Humanities
AP Physics C
AP Cal BC
Yearbook (I'm the editor so I have to take this)
AP Econ/AP Gov
Co-op

If I weren't to take Co-op, I'd probably take Lunch (of course), AP Chem, and AP Statistics. I'd rather take the co-op schedule because it would be nice to get work experience, which I don't have much of.

You think a school, like Yale, would turn the other cheek just because I'd be taking half-day to work? I feel like I honestly don't need the other two classes because I'm already taking a science and math, but I'm not too sure. Thanks for your help!

If you’re taking that extra time to do something significant that you really enjoy, then go for it.

I would suggest that you read Cal Newport’s new book called “How to Become a High School Superstar”. In one section, he talks about a girl who took 2 APs and 2 fun electives during her senior year so that she could work on an independent study. She was accepted to either Columbia, M.I.T or Stanford. (Sorry, I forget) But anyway, the adcoms were impressed how this girl abandoned her average ECs and heavy courseload to do something that made a difference in the real world.
