Would a single horrendous grade matter a lot?

Hi.
I am currently a Junior, and I am extremely worried if I cannot go to the college I wanted.

For past two years, I took Spanish 1 and 2, and got a final grade of C in Spanish 1 and D+ in Spanish 2. So instead of going to Spanish 3 H, I decided to take other 2 electives, (Compsci and Economy, which both of those are given an Honors credit).

To compensate with the Spanish grades, I will take SAT 2 for foreign language (my first language) which I certainly can do well on.

Would that compensate my Spanish grades; let's say, is getting a D would hurt my chances at schools, such as U chicago or Carnegie mellon>?

Thanks.

It's going to hurt a bit, but if the rest of your application is fine, you should be solid.

It will hurt a lot. Your chances aren't completely killed, but don't expect to get in.
Good luck!

nothing will make up for a D in a class... sorry, but if it's just one grade it's not going to make that much of a difference.
