A lot of the schools I looked at only except a 4 or 5 and these are state schools too. Do any schools except a 3 from Human Geo? My teacher said a 3 is good, but then why can't I find any good school which would except it? I am going to be a sophomore.

most “good” schools do not accept 3s
most ivy-caliber schools don’t even accept 4s

some teachers have a skewed views of grades
i’ve had teachers say my C on a test was good (when it was one of the lower scores)

a 3 is fine but generally not good enough to get credit

I was told state schools would, am I wrong? Also, does this look bad. I was happy.

I believe every state school accepts 3+ for ap exams. A 3 is a passing score and it certainly isn’t “bad,” but it’s not “great” either.

I think it’s good for my first AP and for freshman year. Would a school like UGA accept it or UNC- Chapel Hill?

I have given presentations at my school to students and parents on AP testing and AP preparation, and the main point is that your scores are relative to yourself. There are students who have gotten 5’s their whole life, and there are students who have never passed a single exam in their whole life.

As for getting a 3 on your first exam, congratulations! Passing is excellent, and this will give you the confidence to do even better on future exams. Next year will be my 4th year taking advanced placement, and I have learned a lot about the exams - I know the proper approach, pace, confidence level, and manner to give an AP exam. You only get more experienced.

I guess what I’m trying to say is to not get complacent. Passing is great, but you must always be looking to improve. On CC you’ll find a lot of people who just get all 4’s and 5’s - don’t be discouraged. Everyone has different circumstances. At my high school AP exams overall have like a 8% pass rate - a high school near mine has a 100% pass rate for over 500+ calc students. We are all from different schools and environments, and thus have very different opportunities.

I’m sorry for giving a somewhat off topic and long answer, but I’ve seen you post a lot weeks before results nervous about your exam and scores, and I’ve seen several posts now about you pleased by your score. In a way, I guess all of us “vet” test takers can relate to you - we all remember the feeling of passing our first ap exam and how happy we felt to know that we could handle college level stuff. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you can take your results and build on them.

As for your question, UNC and UGA both will.

You can use this page to search ap policies for schools (in general, google everything before posting anything. You will most likely find your answer that way):

Why don’t you go look at the school’s AP articulation polices? I know UW takes 3’s for almost every class. 3 is passing, so I’m willing to bet that any school that is state caliber will take the score.

Just btw, MOST schools don’t take Human Geography in the first place (as far as I know. the colleges I looked at when I applied didn’t take it).

Thanks so much an0 I appreciate it very much. I think I only got discouraged because I want a school like NYU and USC and I know they won’t accept a 3. UGA would be a safety, or somewhere I go if I don’t get scholarships. I think I did good, but when I see CC kids it’s like wow I must have done bad. I’m hoping for a 4 or 5 next year in World. My teacher says improvement looks great! Also, I heard lots of school won’t accept Human Geo at all too. :)

Oh and when I looked at IU- Bloomington I saw that you needed a 4 on lots of things. That’s why I asked about state schools and I never found UGA’s policy’s on all the AP tests. Sorry for asking.

just so you know, NYU doesn’t accept human geo anyway. i just went for a visit and i found that out.

good luck!

Most school’s except Northwestern that accept Human Geo accept it for a 3. A state school near me University of Florida accepts a 3.

You need a 4 at USC. I’m suprised that Chapman requires a 4 for Human Geo, but UNC- Chapel Hill requires a 3. What’s up with that, when UNC is a much better school?

think someone may have said this, but most schools dont take AP Human…

Yeah that’s what I heard, but I’ve found a lot of schools which would give me credit: UGA, UNC- Chapel Hill, Mizzou, IU- Blommington, UCLA, etc.

Rice takes 4s and 5s. And offers nothing for AP Human.
so the real benefit comes from having taken the class and using that knowlege on other AP exams/in other classes.

Thanks!!!
