Would I be looked down upon or applying for a Bio major with a 610 SAT II score?

I took the Bio SAT II in June and I got a 610 on Bio E.

I don't plan to retake because I haven't studied for it at all and I'd probably get a miserable score.

If I apply as a Bio major to like UCI or UCR would they reject me because I'm applying with such a low score?

bump........

bump..........

jeezus, it's like the more you bump these things, the less people want to help you out

i have a similar question. i want to be a bio major but i got a 4 on the ap test.

by the way, its really late on the east coast, so most of the people who come on this site are in bed. youll probably get a response tomorrow.

lol what's wrong with a 4?

A 4 is a pretty good score. Furthermore, UC Riverside and UC Irvine aren't that selective. They won't mind, as a 610 is a generally decent score. However, I would work to bump it up, especially if I were a Biology major in the making.

I majored in chemistry. When I asked how much chemistry I needed to know to be in the program, I was told "We expect you to know physics and math well to have a solid foundation for your future studies, and we will build upon it by teaching you chemistry". It was lo-o-ong time ago, :) but I think the same logic is still applicable today. Many kids enter college and have no clue what they want to major in. Some discover their passion in their freshman or sophmore year. Some even "switch" majors by going into graduate studies with little connection to their undergraduate majors. My first boss, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, had a BA in English. So, do not sweat about your AP tests results and SATs (unless your target school specifically states "Kids with Bio AP under 5 and SATs II under 620 are not welcome") and pursue your dream.

A 4 is fine, Andrea. Why don't you both just apply undeclared? That way they can't argue that they have too many bio applicants and reject you.

yeah, but for my "why ____ college?" essays, i already put that i liked the school because of their biology program, because i want to be a biology major.

Intended major is not considered in UC admissions for the respective College Of Letters & Sciences, so, no, it will not hurt that aspect of your app. As long as you meet the minimum gpa-test score requirements for UC admissions, you are guaranteed a spot in the system: Riverside would be a 99% chance.
