i grew up poor in mass and i am attending Umass for a year or two and then transfering...

however for some reason my best freinds all go to belmont hill/exeter/other elite prep schools...

im asian, but i play rugby/field hockey, xc skii, and do crew....

i didnt really start becomming preppy until i met people through crew, but my lifestyle has completely changed (better grades etc)

i was thinking of vanderbuilt but it is very waspy...do you guys think i would fit in though? also, what are some other very preppy schools? (not AF/AE garbage preps, but real nantucket/martha's vineyard type preps)

Anyone can fit anywhere. I’m Asian and I fit in with my brothers in my fraternity and they are all white except me. I pretty much enjoy everything they do and pretty much am white. However, we are both twinkies.

“real nantucket/martha’s vineyard type preps” =/= southern type preps

Exeter-type kids don’t usually apply to Vanderbilt. They aim for HYPS, Brown, Dartmouth, Amherst, Williams, etc.

Just so you know, only 8% of Vanderbilt undergraduates identify as Asian (or Asian American). Also, the school is not exactly known for being socio-economically diverse.

Unlike most NE preps, some southern preps have no problem flaunting their wealth…

12 percent of undergraduates at Vanderbilt are recipients of the Pell Grant.

Vanderbilt is as diverse, socioeconomically, as Brown, and more diverse than schools such as Princeton, Yale, Penn, Duke, UVA.

In truth, one can’t expect much socioeconomic diversity at the nation’s elite universities and colleges. Only Columbia and Amherst lead their peers. But, Vanderbilt is not that bad.

*hmmm…but does vanderbuilt take these kids just to be able to say they have diverisity? *

Good heavens…all schools do this…do you really think schools give $$ or take certain kids out of the “goodness of their hearts”??? No, schools do it because it somehow benefits their school and their “numbers.” Their rankings depend on these things. It’s called “Enrollment Management.”

wow mcfuggie, you sound like a complete bro D-Bag, or worse, you are trying to be. college is a time to be diversifying out and losing these stupid images, not trying to reinforce them. why dont you actually worry about getting an education than stupid stuff like this…
