Would I get into Barrett?

cGPA: ~3.5
However it is because I wasn’t serious about academics until Junior year as seen by my upward trend, F-3.0 Soph- 3.1 J-4.0 S-4.0
10 APs (Got 3+ on ones I have taken so far)
SAT: 1350/1950
SAT II: Math II-800, USH-740, Physics- 710
ECS: German Club, Chess Club, Link Crew

How would my chances be for Barrett Honors College?

You’d have a good shot; the only thing hurting you would be the GPA. A 3.5 at first glance is a little low for Barrett, but with an upward trend and good recs you should be okay. (:

Is there anything entering into my senior year that will greatly help my chances? Other than maintain good grades of course. Also I’m a First gen Hispanic, I know theres a relatively large amount of hispanics at ASU, but would this help at all?

I’d actually say that you’re straggling the line. I had about the same stats as you, and I barely got in, mostly because of my essay (I talked to the dean about it, and he said that if you’re stats are at the minimum, they’ll read your essay and look at your ec’s and AP scores to make the final decision). Plus, applicants have almost doubled so it’s getting tougher to be accepted. Your AP’s will be a big plus. I would say something that can greatly help your chances are to write an amazing essay (make it somewhat nonconventional). Have your english teachers edit it if you trust their opinions. Also, get really good teacher recommendations!

Good luck!

I agree with christalena2…you are straggling the line. I got accepted into Barrett for this Fall 2010 as an incoming Freshman and I was able to talk to the Dean of Admissions. He said they received so many applications like never before and admissions was very competitive. He said that Barrett will probably be getting even more competitive in the future. They only accept about 700 incoming Freshman and they got a lot of applications this past session. I was so scared I was not going to get accepted because a lot of my fellow classmates were rejected and we were all together in honors and AP classes and they were amazing students! If your gpa is going up, then that is good. Get really good letters of rec. and make sure your essay is amazing! Make sure you APPLY EARLY. Apply for Barrett as soon as you apply for ASU. You have to be accepted into ASU first before they can review your application for Barrett, but Barrett will hold your application until they receive notification of your admission into ASU. Be one of the first in line for the admissions process!

^ Applying early, great suggestion. Definitely a big help!
