Would it be a foolish move to change intended major?

Hi,

I'm going to be transferring into Rutgers University: School of Arts and Sciences this fall, and I will be considered as an undeclared student. When I was applying to Rutgers, I originally had the intention to get enough Rutgers credits so that I can do a school-to-school transfer into the nursing school. I'm not sure how likely this will be since I am pretty behind now anyways; I only have 15 credits but will be taking summer courses to catch up. Art History was another major that was interesting to me, but people have told me that I would be making a very stupid decision to change my goals. I would LOVE to study Art History, but I'm afraid that I will never find a job like what people tell me. I don't know what to major in anymore because I would love to pursue either, but the likelihood of getting into nursing is impossible. What should I do? I'm so confused!

How do you know it is next to impossible? Have you spoken with an advisor at the nursing school? If you haven’t, you should call the nursing school and ask to speak with someone who can help.

If it is highly unlikely that you can get into Rutgers nursing, perhaps you should apply to another school. Places like Stockton, William Patterson, and Ramapo are in-state (thinking of tuition, of course) and have nursing programs.

I’m already behind, and I’m hoping that I’d get into the program for next fall. I don’t want to have to keep applying for the same program continuously, which in turn will delay my education. For some odd reason, Rutger will not let me take any science courses during the summer unless I complete the pre-reqs (which I won’t have) delaying me even further. It seems impossible for me to get into the program. I’ve already contacted the both the School of Arts and Sciences and the nursing school; however, they aren’t able to advise me because I have not matriculated at the school yet.
