Would it be bad to email let them know I will be participating in an REU?

Hello,
I have not been in school during the pandemic and worry that it will affect my chance of getting into the UCs that I want as a transfer student. I mentioned that I tried to go out of state during the pandemic when things went online for zoom but was unable to go due to financial constraints.

I have been enrolled in a few extra classes this past semester at my community college and have continued to participate volunteering. I was unsure that I would be able to get in, but I was actually accepted into a summer research program.

Is there any way that I can let the admissions officers know that I will be continuing to advance my education despite my absence? I really don’t want it to seem that I don’t care about my major as a science major.

Would it seem obnoxious if I emailed admissions to let them know that despite my gap due to the pandemic, I have secured a research position?

I don’t want to bother them too much, but I really want them to get the full picture. Any opinions?

sincerely,
a worried transfer student

So have you already applied to the UC’s for transfer?

Yes. I have applied. I just wanted to know if it would be bad to email the admissions and let them know that I am going to be doing research this summer since I have a two-year gap. I am a California resident.

Did you explain your education gap? Usually the UC’s will ask for an explanation after you submitted your application. You can email but since UC transfer decisions have already been posting for some schools, the information probably will not be available for the reviewers to make any difference at this point.
