Would it be wise to send in a big Extensive portfolio to schools?

I want to know if it would be wise to send in a recording of me playing the flute even though Im no prodigy at it.Should I also send samples of my writings? Also should i photocopy any awards for proof its true?Im also sending samples of my art and I would like to overall know if sending all these things would be helpful to my application. I dont want to send to much that may be deemed annoying or a waste.Lastly when sending these things should i send digital copies or physical?Excuse my grammar.Whats the maximum piece of work I should send lastly?

No.

Only is the school asks for a writing sample.

Digital, unless the school asks otherwise. And even within digital, send the format the school asks for. If they ask for audio of music, that means don’t send video.

As for the overall “Should I send” question on music and art: If it will enhance your application, send. If it’s just more “stuff,” don’t send. Just because a piece of art earned an A in art class does not mean you should send it, necessarily.

The old adage comes into play, sometimes: the thicker the file, the thicker the kid.

This is a great question to ask either in your interview, in a meeting with a music/art/english teacher or in an email to any of those people after you visit the school. Many schools are very specific about what sort of supplemental material they want, and the specific format that they want it in.

And how to title it correctly when you send it ;)!!

@Golfgr8 ?

I think what @Golfgr8 means is the name of the file (ApplicantBlahAudio) or the subject of the email … etc …
Did I read that right @Golfgr8 ?

Or however the school tells you to title it, if they get that specific. But yea, don’t title it “Me playing the flute.”

HAHA :O)

hey haha are you applying for the next cycle? (me too) I play the flute as well - since you’re thinking about sending flute samples, are you considering to send in a special interest recomm from your music teacher (if you’re playing at school) - I think that would save you some stress, and as for the awards, I’m planning to just write about it because there’s a girl who got into Andover and she mentioned that you don’t necessarily have to

she had her counselor (my counselor too) to write about them so it would look trustworthy

hope this helps!

  • the Andover girl is from my gradel and she also got into L'ville :D

@milreasonswhy Yeah I’m applying for the next cycle,I’m so pumped to start the application cycle!I think I may send a special interest recomm to my music teacher,I’m not very
good though at playing the flute so I may not.I also don’t have any awards so yeah. What grade are you in btw?

im currently freshman so ill be applying for 11th grade - its prolly harder than applying as incoming freshie / soph but i thought i’d give it a shot

Hey Kids, greetings from Disney! Just a public service reminder to please read your application materials carefully to be ready 6-7 months from now when submitting supplemental materials…some of you may have Spring semester & summer sports, dramatic performances,& tournament highlights that you may want to video tape for later use. Maybe you have artwork or photographs at the completion of the school year. Maybe you will be doing something fabulous this summer that will yield material for the application process. . The BS may have their own preference for the format& how you must label it in the subject line. Read the application & follow instructions. See above reference @ this topic. BTW, this is good practice for college applications & applying for internships down the road. Please clarify early in the process so you’re not stressed . Start thinking about it early so that if you do have questions about how to package your awesome talents, they can be addressed in a timely way. Practice safe supplementing ;)!!
