would it look bad on my application if i did this?

i have never had a study hall in all my years in school. i always had electives to fill the space. this year, because of a couple of different factors regarding sports and other activities, i have study halls for my 8th period classes so that i will not miss out on important classes when i leave early for games and matches. does it look bad on college applications if i have study halls?

also, there is an SAT course that my school offers. if i took that (just one period a week), would it look bad on my transcript as well? i don't know if it is worth it to take the course because it might not look so great to prestigious college admission offices, and also because i'm not sure the course will be helpful. i average about 1900-2100 everytime so of course i could use some help for stronger and more consistent scores, but most of the people enrolled in the course have never studied outside of school for it. therefore, the class may not be helpful to me.

I’d say the option of taking a study hall depends on which year of high school you will be entering. If you are a rising junior, I’d highly recommend against it. Junior year is the most crucial year when it comes to applying to colleges, and unfortunately, they might take the fact that you opted to have a free period instead of a class (whether it be AP, Honors, or an easy-A class, it’d look better to have at least SOMETHING during that period) as laziness/slacking.

And my school doesn’t offer an SAT Prep Class, so I can’t really answer your question due to not really knowing that much about one…sorry.
