I am in the midst of finding a topic for one of my college essays. With the Common App prompt #1, I want to write about my 90 pound weight loss and how the process has both shaped me as a person and served as a testament to my perseverance and drive. My aim is to keep the essay as positive as possible and highlight the good that came from it, not the bad that preceded it.

At the same time, I am writing in the additional information section of the common app about how my Narcolepsy has served as an obstacle in my academic endeavors, and how getting treatment has changed my life for the better.

Separately, I think these are acceptable to have in an application. However, I'm worried that together, they will give the message that I am someone who identifies with illness or looks for excuses. Would these components to my application appear poor together, and is there a way I can keep them both without giving off the "pity me" vibe? Or should I find a new essay prompt? I cannot avoid mentioning the narcolepsy due to the significant impact it has had on my life.
