I have to agree with emilsinclair, it’s a positive trend, but not really one that stands out. I talked with a counselor at Cal about upward trends earlier and she said that a positive trend will help you, but not as much as a “great upward trend.”

I’ve talked to many counselors who gave me the “Well if your grades are going up… that’s good…” response, but this certain counselor at Cal was VERY direct in our conversation and literally answered all my questions without giving me vague answers. I did ask her if my grades (C+,C+,A+,B-,B+,A-,A,A,A-,A-,A+,A+,A-,A-,A,A) demonstrated a great upward trend and she said that was probably the most ideal scenario for me because in my application I listed that I had a near-death emergency during fall 08 finals week, that was clearly documented. She did warn me though that if students try to pull the “Well _____ happened this quarter, so I had bad grades…” that it is very likely that they will audit it or just forgo it if it seems too unlikely or that you’re just trying to overplay something. She literally told me that they’ve read every sob story in the book, they can smell BS even through thousands of apps.

I received Academic Renewal on those F’s and the D (only 1 of those classes was transferrable anyway) and since then, I’ve been doing fine. I also explained that first bad semester in my PS…I sure hope they don’t think that my story is BS just because I don’t have any tangible documentation lol.

Btw Midnight, super quick…upward trend ^^?

I think I do, but I’d like another opinion just for the hell of it.

Lakers, shut up. You know that you make yourself seem like a dick, right? Every single comment you post in a thread is extremely rude and unhelpful to others. Please, do yourself a favor and don’t say anything at all.

Midnight, thanks for the info. You definitely gave me me a new perspective on grade trends in general & i also have an explanation for my poor grades in the beginning. However, it’s hard to prove because there’s no legal documents proving my health issues, but I definitely have some viable sources to prove it. Btw, your grade trend looks great :)

Yeah emilsinclair, you’re good to go. Just by looking at your first semester and then your last, there’s a pretty big jump from individual semester GPAs.

Also misteranon, you should be fine if you have any medical documentation (that’s what I’m using) that clearly lists the severity and the timing of your issue. I highly doubt they will need it, but just in case if you want to appeal or anything. I wrote in my prompt #3 that I would supply the medical documentation as well as contact information from my profs (the two I received C+'s in) if needed.

lmao @ laker. Ya know, laker, it took me a while (a few months) to sort of feel out your humor, but now I really respect you. You and vintij… - sometimes you two make me laugh out loud in class.

@ SFwarrior and Midnight: Thanks guys! I just wanted to be sure, and you guys confirmed that for me. I really appreciate it. Best of luck to all.

Well it didn’t take me a few months to figure it out. You took my words out of context. It took me a few months to get used to it. At first I wasn’t fond of it, and now I am.
