Assignment: Does the truth change depending on how people look at things?

A lot of people might confuse the meaning of “perspective” and that of “truth”. In fact, those two words have significant difference, for truth serves as something permanent while perspective varies as circumstances vary. Thus, truth is somehow unalterable, regardless how people look at things and what the circumstance is.

What is perspective? Perspective is how people think of things. It is a point of view, an opinion, something personal and subjective. As product of subjective thoughts, perspective can hardly shed any truth, since it varies greatly from time to time, individual to individual. Usually, perspective is something commonly held by members of a society at a certain time period. For example, the Japanese right-wing party members regard Nanjing Massacre as “fictional”; however, as data reveals, this event is a historical fact. Such gap between the real “truth” and the perspective held by those Japanese is caused by the different view of value of a people.

Then, what is truth? Truth is an objective existence which is adamant. Scientific truths can best explain the meaning of truth. As we all know, that the earth orbits around the sun. This natural phenomenon is an axiom, a truth that was determined ever since the birth of this galaxy. Such truth can never be changed as people’s point of view varies. It does not matter what Aristotle assumed before, nor what the Church insisted--- or it will be extremely ridiculous that the earth shifts between the center of the universe and the satellite of the sun. The example above demonstrates that truth is unchanged, or it might incur great absurdity.

On the other hand, truth is the intrinsic of things while perspective is only the appearance of them. Usually, individual are cheated by what an object “looks like”, and, thus, ignore what really lies inside. In the light of the statement above, the “first impression” should be regarded a “misleading perspective”, not unlike what Elizabeth, the protagonist of the novel Pride and Prejudice, used to held. After her first meet of Mr. Darcy, who is pretty reticent and hardly shows any passion, at the ball, Elizabeth grows a precondition that Mr. Darcy is rude and arrogant, which is later proved wrong as the plot develops. The ultimate truth is that Mr. Darcy is intrinsically gentle and warm-hearted, much to the contrary of what Elizabeth used to think. Moreover, such quality remains regardless of any particular prejudice. Due to the example above, we can say that truth, serves as intrinsic of things, hardly varies accord with people’s view.

It is quite evident that truth is unalterable, for what really changes is perspective. As an objective existence, truth remains unchanged permanently in this universe. Instead of being misled by their preconditions, individuals should continuously seek the intrinsic of the world and the ultimate meaning of truth.

By the way... I am not a native speaker : )
pls add ur suggestions, thx

I would give it a 9 or a 10. (out of 12). It is pretty good as a whole, but there are several errors in sentence structure and misuse of words. I also think that your first example ( the Nanjing Massacre) could use a little more detail. You may know all the details, but your readers may need a little more background to understand it completely. Your thesis sentence would read better without the ‘somehow’ before unalterable. In the third paragraph, ‘adamant’ is not used correctly; although it can mean ‘certain’, it is more to describe a person who is certain of something and keeps insisting it. It is incorrect to describe ‘truth’ as adamant. Hope it helps.

Thanks a lot~
