Wow, I am SO Smart it hurts!!

Not really, I am decent enough though!

Background:South Asian

Fin. Aid: I will NOT be applying for Financial Aid!!

Interested in Pre Med. Not sure about major.

Rank:Top 3-6% in a Competitive IB school in Canada ~4/85<--15 dropped out because of world load.. used to be 100

Courseload: IB... need i say more. If you are not familiar, it's hard.

-->In Canada 80+ is an A so i do not know how to convert GPA<--
Junior:
All As(82,90,87,87,86,85)
Sophomore:
All As(80,81,90,92,87,85,86)

Only 8 out of 85 people have all As

I know i can do better . While these raw numbers would be considered not so good in the States, here it is obviously different as A is 80+ and not 90+. Some have said it is 4.0 GPA because it is all As. Honestly, i do not know but all i know is i do not have any Bs. I am SURE it is not below 3.65. Anyway, colleges have their own way i guess. My Junior grades will be better if these grades are not good enough. Upward Trend, i can show.

SATs:
Math:730
Writing:710
CR:680
Total:2120.. will aim for high 2150+ next time.

SAT IIs(Have not taken them YET)
Projected Bio:690
Projected Chem:720
Projected Math One:710

Volunteering:
(~450 Hours)
-LakeShore Hospital(~200)
-Canadian Red Cross(~50)
-Muscular Dystrophy Canada(~50)
-Youth Assisting Youth(~100)
-Senior's Care(~50)

Very dedicated to volunteering. It is one of my strong points, probably!

Extra Curriculars:
-President of International Relations Club
-President of Culture Club
-Secretary of Asian Club(mostly white members haha)
-Grade Ten Class Rep.
-Empowered Student Partnership Member
-Tech Crew
-Passionate Cricket and Ping Pong player

Awards:
-Some Math Contest Top Percentile Awards, Bronze Medal etc.
-Art In-school Silver Medal
-Predicting Ontario Scholar(All As throughout HS.. 5 people get it)

I will participate in some contests next year and add some to this category. Not big on competitions but i am pretty competitive. Friendly competitive though.

Essays should be personal and sincere. That is all i can really say about that. Recommendations should be good!

What do you think(PLEASE be very honest!!) my chances are to get into each in terms of percentages: (I know JHU and Rice have holistic approaches so yea)

JHU(ED)
U Mich(Second Choice)
Rice U.(Third Choice)
Duke
UVa
UCSD
U of Chicago
Emory
UPitt
NYU
Tufts

The reason why i have mostly reaches and matches(i think) on this list and no easy safety is because, if i do not get into the upper ones, i will go to U of T or McGill which are world class univ. I just want to go to the States at this point.

I appreciate your responses. I will definitely chance you back if you want me to. Please tell me which is a reach/match/safety and let me know, roughly, what percentage chance i have of getting in. For Example: Tufts=X% of getting in. Anyway, thanks guys. I promise this is my last chance thread. I am just a bit nervous. Thanks a lot!

I am a full IB student also....and I know what you mean, IB is a really tough curriculum. I must say I am not terribly familiar with east coast schools and a lot of CCers are so hopefully they can give you %. That said, I think with your grades... which are 4.0 and your good SAT's and great EC, you have a very very good chance of getting into all those schools. Write a great essay and I would venture to say your in!
Good Luck!
chance me back, thanks.

thankyou kmitch.. i will definitely chance you back.. yea IB is tough, tough and tough. However, it is worth it because colleges view it very highly.. especially if you are doing well in them. Thanks. Some percentages please!

IB Student from Canada here too. Don't worry about GPA... the schools have their own way of calculating GPA.

Edit- Nevermind, I didn't read your first line and didn't realize that your title was (somewhat) sarcastic.

No, no, no at the Math I. Take Math II.

Why is that amciw.. i am assuming after grade 11 i will only be able to do math 1. Isn't math II kind of advanced even for a rising senior. I am not sure. Thanks anyway... percentages people!! chances!!

^Math II only goes up through precalculus...you should be able to handle it!

Pre-med, dude go to JHU you won't find a better pre-med program they rank #1, and also give little bump-ups to their premed students applying to their med school which ranks second! I was somewhat like you in medical voulenteering, and my SAT's. I had to write a hell of an essay however, since they are holistic as you spoke of. I also did a variety of extra curriculars along with a medical internship last summer; and hey I got into JHU for pre-med! Hope to see you there, and if not the other schools that you mentioned are ultra-superior and prestige as well! So good luck and best of wishes mate!

Sir George, could you please go into detail on what your stats were in specific . it would really help me. like i said, JHU is top choice and i would love to go there. We shall see.. hopefully my volunteering sets me apart from the usual candidate. I still have not received any actual chances though! please!

Dude- If you have taken precalc, then take math II. I took both and ended up with a 740 Math 1 and a 780 Math 2. I skipped one question on the math 1, and skipped about 6 or 7 on math 2 but still got a 780. I would definitely reccomend the math 2.

WOW your lucky. our A is 86% :D

I am terribly bad at doing chance threads, so i definitely can't tell you % for each school.

but if you want %s,

i say 70% in your top three, 95% in one of your choices. Good luck and try to get like 2400! (reach for the stars; if you miss you'll still land on the moon!)

haha its all good.. thx for trying haha! well i am assuming you getting 86 is as hard as us getting 80.. coz it is NOT easy to get 80 here in canada. In the states, it is i think. anyway, some more chances please!

I understand what you mean by IB. That's where it's at. It's tough stuff.
JHU(ED) - High Match
U Mich(Second Choice) - Low Reach (out of state)
Rice U.(Third Choice) - Low Reach
Duke - Low Reach
UVa - Low Reach (out of state is tough)
UCSD - Match (only because your out of state)
U of Chicago - This school puts huge weight on essay.
Emory - Match
UPitt - Safety (Scholarship)
NYU - Match
Tufts - Match
by the way. why no UBC? if I were you i would do McGill and UBC and Toronto, and drop Pitt. Just my two cents.

spades thanks a lot. UBC is very very good . however, for pre med ? i am actually not sure but we shall see. i know McGill has arguably best med in Canada. Toronto's is good too. Anyway thanks for the chances. I feel a bit more confident. Any more guys :)

I live near UBC... its a good school.. a lot of asians go there lol..factor that in your decisions. As for your US schools, i think you are decent shot for jhu.

Thanks for the chance!

John Hopkins - Low Reach
UMich - high Match
Rice - High Match
Duke - Reach
UVa - Reach
UCSD - Low Reach (OOS)
UChicago - Low Reach (ESSAY)
Emory - Match
UPitt - Safety
NYU - Match
Tufts - Low Match

JHU(ED) - match
U Mich(Second Choice) - match
Rice U.(Third Choice) - match
Duke - low reach
UVa - high match
UCSD - low reach (tough OOS)
U of Chicago - high match
Emory - match
UPitt - match
NYU - match
Tufts - match

Thats so weird... I'm big on competitions, but not very competitive...

U must be my alterego!!! OMG...

By the way Pitt is such a joke-don't even bother applying there, even as a massive safety.

haha, thats funny

well i thought u pitt was a good safety/match and a decent med program.. ill check about it again. thanks a lot. any others ??
