After calling the admissions officer today and asked about how competitive engineering major was since i thought that was my guess for denied admission. Then the officer tells me that the students were not chosen by major. Then i started asking how people in my school got in with 3.5 and 1800sats with like no extracurriculars in aerospace w/o taking precalc hp and ap calc when i had 2040sats with 4 years of band, key club, took precalc hp and ap calc and much more ap classes trying to go for electrical.
Then only thing she saids is "its been very competitive year." Then i just turned off my phone.

sigh~

lol uci undergraduate admissions is the most inconsistant i've seen by far.

head up, you're too good for uci.

^ Yeah, dude, I remember last year I called UCI admissions with a similar situation.
I asked "Why was I not chosen and yet I see students with practically no ECs going in?"

and she just said "You have the option to appeal, It's been competitive this year and things on admission are chosen by different factors"

There are other things besides EC's like community service and out of school activities.

You feel insulted? Why do you have such a sense of entitlement?
Just go to a school you got into and be happy.

UCI is holistic in admissions, meaning they look at the overall application before making a decision. I'm not sure why you got rejected, but there may be a lot of reasons they did not accept you besides just SAT's and the classes you took.

Do you mean "Wow i feel a bit insulted" or "Wow, I feel a bit insulted"?

I hope your essays didn't contain the same poor grammar...

^^^^
Are you serious right now? Do you really have to act like a d-bag? If you really do have to be one, maybe your mom could use you because the thread-maker sure doesn't.

its not like im going to check my grammer when im writing on the forums... and im in AP Literature this year and i passed the AP Language test last year so im pretty confident about my writing skill
And, im not a freak who would read my post over and over to check my grammer...

and yes did feel a bit insulted but im over it now since i know couple "dumb" people who got into Irvine from my school. After talking to them, they made me feel like i was less academically capable compared to them..

/rant

"UCI is holistic in admissions, meaning they look at the overall application before making a decision. I'm not sure why you got rejected, but there may be a lot of reasons they did not accept you besides just SAT's and the classes you took."

thats what i thought at first and i asked him if could read his essay but it was mediocre and i know he did not have any extracurriculars. He did have couple AP classes like 4 but nothing outstanding. And dont get me started on this other girl who got accepted...

/end rant

burn hokem, burn...

UGH.

We don’t need whiners like all the complainers here anyway. Seriously, get over yourself.

i also got rejected with good stats and ec’s
UCSB here we go!
i’m not stressin over it though. i wasnt really stuck on uci but it would have been nice to be the one to not accept THEIR admission offer. what school are you going to?
?

Its reasonable to feel that way @ OP. It is true that UCI looks at applications holistically. And if I’m not mistaken, is there more than one officers who check each application? If so, that admission officer might have been having a crappy day, who knows.

Additionally, while essays may seem ‘mediocre’ to you, that is just your opinion. 4 years of band and key club is nothing outstanding either. And be careful with your words by saying ‘dumb’, it is a bit ironic how your title is ‘Wow i feel a bit insulted’ while I’m certain that you have insulted a few members on this board by calling people with stats like those ‘dumb’.

I have only been posting on these boards for less than a day and it seems like everyone here is really self obsessed and delusional. What’s going on here?

Maybe you got bad recommendations. Personality counts, too!

^ You have no clue my friend. UCs don’t even use recommendations.

Most wouldn’t understand what it feels like to be rejected by a college while someone with lower stats, regular classes, near no EC’s got in.

Some people who got rejected from other colleges may have gotten into better colleges so it’s no big deal to them, but to those who got beat out by someone not as qualified as them as one of their top schools, it’s pretty shocking.

I might be wrong, but I’m just stating my opinion.

Don’t start bagging on people who complain about admissions & rejections.
It’s really none of your business. If you don’t like it, don’t say anything.
This year’s admissions WERE whack in general anyways.

Well, the OP considers him/herself insulted when he/she insults others. Unless you were personally able to look at the other people with lesser stats ACTUAL UC APPLICATIONS, you really can’t complain about being rejected or whatnot.

It’s true that admissions are whack this year. And BTW, I consider it anyone’s business to post on this thread, because this is a FORUM. Obviously the OP made this thread in order to have or spark a discussion.

No offense to the OP or anyone else intended.

^ I see your point.
