Do other kids ever get mad at you for ruining test curves. I don't want to brag, but other kids often voice their displeasure at me for that. I was curious if other students, especially at larger school, had the same experiences, or if the increased abundance of exceptionally smart people reduced the fury.

I set the curve pretty much every time in AP Human Geo. They never got mad at me. The teacher didn't announce who broke the curve much, and I don't like sharing my scores.

But I was a junior, and everyone else was a freshman, so it was kind of expected. lollll

iwaswalking told me this wonderful story

----- (9:20:50 PM): well this one time in ap chemistry
----- (9:21:35 PM): i had heard from kids in the regular chemistry class that the teacher had curved her tests
----- (9:21:42 PM): so that the lowest score became the highest
----- (9:21:53 PM): so i failed the practice ap exam on purpose
a temporary sn (9:21:56 PM): lmao
----- (9:21:58 PM): and i got the highest grade

lul

I do it all the time in my math class. :D

No. Whenever I set the curve, it's usually low enough that the teacher can add like +10. But there's this one guy (rank #1, actually--figures :p) who sets the curve almost everywhere there is one to be set. And he does it mercilessly.

Our physics teacher used to curve the highest to a 93, but he scored a 94, so the teacher had to curve to 100 or everyone would have failed! Well, most people failed anyway.

LOL You people are lucky your teachers curve things fairly.

We only have 1 teacher who "curves" grades, and I would be the only student she to score an A on almost any assignment. She would then give me a "curve" of 1 point, and the 2nd highest score (78-84) would get something like 8-10 points. I was always secretly upset.

There was one person who set the curve on almost every one of our APUSH tests last year who would always get like 99-100 so we'd get no curve...it was infuriating...

When I was in eighth grade we had this obnoxious English teacher who liked to "congratulate" kids on their test scores. So everybody always knew I set the curve by, like, a LOT, and they would get really upset at me. Being an insecure twelve-year-old I started getting just enough questions wrong on purpose so that nobody would be upset...sad.

Of course, none of that ever happens to me when it came to math. Usually I'm the one secretly ****ed off at the kid with a 98. But I never say it aloud.

For some reason, teachers only "curve" by the method described here in those classes which I perform poorly in -- ie history. I'd be stuck with a B+/A- and there would always be someone with a 98 -- hence, nothing substantial.

This year a lot of my teachers are taking the average of the classes scores and raising that % up to a a B or so, which means that I usually end up getting a 100+ ;D.

I think it's so funny to wreck the curves!
But, being a girl, and in high school, I keep that to myself. lol

In my AP physics class, every student gets the same curve.

Take the square root of your raw score, multiply it by 10, and then add 10 (9 if you missed one homework assignment, etc).

A 100 becomes a 110.
A 64 becomes a 90.
A 49 becomes an 80.

And people still fail!

This is really the only class in high school that I've ever had a curve in (because the teachers don't curve, not because everyone does well).

no curves for us

A lot of math/science teachers here do .8 x the raw score + 20, so 100s stay 100s and the low end gets the most help. I like those scales...I think they're fairer than 1 person ruining the scale for everyone else because they got a 99.

No curves here, either, except in math classes. It's a good thing, too, because our tests are always 7+ pages.

I set the curve enough times that people in my AP English class started to call me "curvebreaker".

_>

I felt kind of bad.

Heh.

I set the curve for an AP Biology final. In fact, my friend and I like, destroyed it, lol. I got a 112% and he got a 117%. Besides us, the grades weren't so hot..

The curve in my AP Physics C class is the same every year. However, someone broke a record for the first test this year: 104/120 LOL

Yeah, I got like a 61/120 and ended up with a B+ :)

Lol I cant' remember a time when I didn't set the curve...

Haha! When I read the title "Wrecking curves" I thought this was going to be a thread of bombshell celebrities.

I was ready to state my opinion that Kim Kardishian has the most wrecking curves and as a straight girl, I am really jealous. -.-
