I am taking the ACT on September 15. I am taking the Writing Component, and I am unsure as to how that portion of the test affects your overall score. Is it possible to get your score with and without the writing section? I am taking the ACT specifically for one program that does not count the Writing Score, but I am taking the Writing Component anyway, because most other colleges require it. Any insight would be appreciated.

Summary: Can I see my ACT scores with and without the Writing Component added in?

Sorry to hijack your thread monkeypin, but I have a similar question. I didn't want to make a new thread for one small question. I recently took a Princeton Review course diagnostic test and was wondering what part the writing section plays in the admissions process. Suppose I got a 27 on the english section and a 12 on the essay. This would probably put my english+writing score around a 29 or 30. Do colleges use just the english score or the eng+writing score when looking at an applicant?

If you don't take writing, you get multiple choice scores for four tests and a composite (average score). Taking writing does not affect any of those scores, it just gets you two more scores: a writing score and an English/writing score. So if a school doesn't use the writing scores, taking it won't hurt you.

i have the same question...most of the schools i'm applying to require the writing component. so they'll probably look at a composite that averages in a english/writing score? or does the english/writing not get averaged in?
