Ok, so I've heard of Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.... So i was wondering....
Is there any other notable writing awards and contests besides Scholastic? Anything humanities-ish I guess.

I was just thinking of posting this exact same thread :) There are some interesting links here - I'm looking through the list right now.

This is a pretty good list that I just found from the National Council of Teachers of English.

quaere, you beat me to it.

i also know that being publishe din the Concord Reveiw is supposed to be pretty impressive, according to some of my reading. http://www.tcr.org/

Are there any free alternatives to the concord review?

Thanks guys, for all the links. I would also like to know if there are any free alternatives to the concord review.

All the contests I have seen/entered have an entry fee- except the NCTE awards. However, you must be nominated by a teacher to enter those.

For the Scholastic Writing competition, do you HAVE to list a Teacher's name?

I think so. I just put down my teacher's name (she had never read the story I was submitting) and asked her to sign it. It wasn't really a big deal.
