Writing Help

I'm kind of stuck on the SAT writing, I hear it's really easy to study for it, but I'm still doing really poorly. Right now I'm in the 650-700 range, and I would like a perfect score (or close). Mainly, how do I improve my MC, and what are some tips for writing better essays - I used to think length was all that mattered?

bump

yeah, i know it's a really general question, but i'm really stuck and practice doesn't seem to be improving my score :(.

Read a lot.

yeah, I already do. My CR score is decent now.

I've heard that writing is easy to study for, and I'm wondering if I'm just taking the wrong approach.

I think Writing is easy to study for until you get to the -4 range. From there on, it is really about using your judgment. Writing also has the harshest curve in my opinion.

that is really true... i am at the - 2/3 mark. It seems like the questions I get wrong are not stone hard grammar problems, but rather subjective based upon one's judgement.

yeah, i'm in that range now, but my essays aren't that great either, so that pulls my score down alot. with -5 and an 8 on the essay i got a 680 :(

poor i dont believe is a 650-700.. poor is lyk 500 LOL..

1)MC = practice ..books: the holy blue book and kaplans..ive heard about barrons but havent tried it..my tutor who got perfect scoreon the test used kaplans..

2) Read a lot of current events to get examples (NYIMES=GOODSTUFF..I HATE NEWSPAPERS BUT FORCE YOURSELF)..theres some thread in here where someone listed 10 ways to get a 12. pretty good advice or any prep book will say the same. length is only good if you're expressing your ideas thouroughly..not redundantly..your score WILL lower if u repeat your ideas and your readers arent retarded so they'll know. make sure u have good examples AND ANSWER THE QUESTION MUCHO MUCHO MUCHO WELL! and EXPLAIN EXPLAIN...explaining is kinda the hard part.sry for the caps guys..umm ooo and make sure you're examples correlate (relate basically)
for example dont use like a personal narrative about how your aunt tessy lost her cell phone vs war and a lot of casualities..your score will go down!
