Writing SAT section- important for this year's seniors?

my guidance counselor recently told me that the admissions officers don’t really care about the writing section this year but they aren’t going to confirm this statement to the general public. do you guys think he’s right? or is he just on crack?

i have heard many things, most of which confirm what your guidance counselor has said. all schools have been shady on their policies (except for georgetown who is flat-out discarding it).

many of them now only require two sat II's, which presumably means that they are considering the writing section in place of a third

true, but you're probably thinking that the writing section on the SAT is replacing the writing SAT II. The thing is, they're different. Also, they don't have averages of scores for the writing section on the SAT yet, so they can't necessarily make any exact judgments about what's a good score and what's not. I'm sure that an extremely poor score would hurt your chances for acceptance but maybe they'll just be more lenient for other scores.
