Ws

I'm considering dropping a class that I've taken and got a W before. Will 2 Ws look bad on my transcript. Those are the only two Ws on my whole transcript. I plan on applying to a few UCs in November.

No it will not. I’ve read about people with 20 withdraws. I have 3 on my transcript

Nope…but if you are asked about it (highly unlikely) make sure you have a decent reason. I have 5 W’s and my counselor and a UC advisor said it did not matter.

So if its 2 Ws for the same class it won’t affect me??

What are you guys’ reasons? One of my friends might get a W too and may want to warn him depending on you guys’ reasons.

For the same class: first W was in the summer the fast pace was to much, and this possible W my car got stolen and I have no full coverage, so I’m working to pay off a new one and that class I don’t need it for my major nor for IGETC and others one i can’t really afford to drop.

I was just lazy and I didn’t want to take the classes, but one of the W’s was from a math class I couldn’t/ too lazy to pass. I retook the class over the summer and got an A. So I guess I was lazy.

not 100% sure but if you ever plan to go to graduate school, I heard they count W’s as F

I have 5 W’s and 4 of them were over a span of two semesters in 2010. I was diagnosed with a medical condition. My 1st W was my first semester in college and I was flat out not prepared. I retook all of them except 1 (C Programming) because I ended up switching majors from computer science.

If you don’t need it at all for any of the requirements or to boost your GPA, I would probably drop it.

I had 4 W’s on my transcript and got accepted to CAL this Fall. Also, I dropped a class with a W the same semester I was applying. You’ll be fine. If you have anymore questions do not hesitate to ask! Good luck!

do w’s being your pre-reqs affect differently? and say they will be taken again before transfer.

**@Oiauwy: W’s do not matter as much if they are pre-reqs. If you have more than 3-4 you should explain on your application why you have so many! I mean it depends case by case. How many W’s do you have?

&nd yes! If they are pre-reqs you should take them before you transfer! Let me know if you have anymore questions!

did you have any W’s? if so how did you explain your case?

and how hard is it to switch majors?

W’s matter for grad school but not undergrad admissions as much.

**@Oiauwy: Of course I had W’s. I am certainly not perfect; we all make mistakes. I received 4 W’s. &nd this was due to the fact that I was working 2-3 jobs while going to school full time. My father had passed away and I decided to start contributing to some of the family expenses with the little income I earned. It depends on what school you attend when it comes to switching majors. My understanding is that you cannot switch majors to majors that are capped.
Grad schools do not count Ws as Fs.
