WTH? I'm so confused (got email about fees)

I just got this email:

"**Monthly BAR Statement Reminder

You were selected to receive this reminder email as your account showed an amount due as of 8:00 AM this morning. If you have since made payment on your account, please disregard this email, and thank you for your payment. **

Please do not respond to this email. All inquiries should be directed to Student Financial Services at: asksfs@finance.ucla.eduasksfs@finance.ucla.edu.

BAR Statement Reminder

Students enrolled in the Executive MBA, Fully Employed MBA, Executive MPH, the Educational Leadership Program, Online Masters Program in Engineering and all Summer Session students should refer to this month’s messages at the eBills link shown below for your fee payment deadlines.

For all other students this is a reminder that your payment is due before 5:00 P.M. on September 20, 2010 for charges posted last month or earlier. New charges posted this month are due by the 20th of next month."

I'm a freshman and I have no idea what to do/what this is about. I didn't get any financial aid so we took out the maximum in parent and student loans. I thought this would automatically be applied to all my charges.

So I checked my BAR to see what the charges and they're a bunch of fess from August that I was never notified about (Most were really small but there was a $3,000+ "Education Fee")

So I have about $3,500 in charges that were, according to this email, due this morning. On my BAR, it says the "Maximum Credit Card Payment Allowed" is exactly half of the charges (around $1,750).

How am I supposed to pay for this? Do I just wait a little bit longer until my loans are automatically applied to it? Or do I use a credit card right now to pay half the charges (if so, how/when do I pay the other half)? Also, if I use a credit card, will it count as part of my student loan or will it just be paying for it on my own?

I'm really confused and kinda worried. Any help would be appreciated.

yah i dont understand this also. and i thought my cal grant was suppose to cover my tuition, however they havnt done the budget in CA yet, so UC said they would cover it for us for now…but now im just plain out confused too

So did you get this email too?

yah i did…i actually got three emails today

Same here. got 3 as well

So did I :/

I’m pretty sure everyone got those emails, it’s no big deal. I got one and I have a full ride.
Just pay your fees by September 20th or if you’re on financial aid wait until your money is disbursed and it will be paid automatically

NOTE: “Students enrolled in the Executive MBA, Fully Employed MBA, Executive MPH, the Educational Leadership Program, Online Masters Program in Engineering and all Summer Session students should refer to this month’s messages at the eBills link shown below for your fee payment deadlines.”

If it does not concern you, don’t worry about it!

I just assumed something emailed to me saying “You…” was something that concerned me lol

I got them too. It kind of sounds like something they just automatically send out at the beginning of each month to anyone with charges on their account.

Now the housing payment email with the date missing sent out last week totally freaked me out. /:

i came straight to college confidential after receiving the same exact email lol. I’m no longer worried since it seems many of you (also on financial aid plan) got the same email. I’m assuming we just have to wait til’ the 13th

Man, this whole financial aid thing is stressful and confusing!! lol

I’m not on financial aid but I got that as well. The only thing to note about that email is:

That’s all there is to it.

Yeah, it sucks when they charge you for tuition

The amount shown for “maximum credit card payment” is your out-of- pocket cost. That means that your grants/loans are not enough to cover all the fees. But you still have until 5:00 p.m. on September 20, 2010 to pay. If you have enough grants/loans to cover all the fees, your “maximum credit card payment” should be 0.
