WTP Summer Program

Vaguely related to CMD's question:

If we got a higher score on a standardized test should we send it in in an email or something? Or just let them see what we had as of Jan.

idk eightmagnets but i dont see how it could hurt if they are significantly better then why not send them?
actually, they only have my PSAT scores. should I have sent in my Jan scores?

will acceptance decisions be emailed or in the mail?

Decisions were in the mail last year (big packet!)

Anything in the 700s is excellent, whether it's for this summer program or for applying to college. If you jumped from a 650 to a 750 or something like that, I'd think the score is worth sending. 750->770 not so much. :)

I think your essays help you get in the most -- Since some of the people on the admissions committee are your tutors (re: they have to live with you!) they want to know that you're a cool person who's going to fit in well and be willing to work hard and have a good time.

I was also a WTP student last year. I personally think they pick mostly for your academic strength, but even people with perfect SAT scores got rejected! So don't worry if you're not perfect academically. WTP really helps you get into MIT (I think). Out of 37 WTP students who applied, 30 got accepted (both early and regular action). I think 3 got rejected, and 4 got waitlisted. Anway, congratulations if you get into WTP! It was a really fun experience for me! And it makes you fall in love with MIT!

Woah, for one, who are you? and for 2nd, who got waitlisted/rejected, I didn't hear about anyone -- everyone i talked to got in....

:)

This is Caroline, by the way. :)

Just checked website: admissions decisions mailed April 14th.

I wonder how many people apply to this program. Anyone from last year know?

Well I read on the website that 400 girls apply and 40 are accepted.
Thats only 10%, lower than the acceptance rate for MIT itself(14% for 2005)!

Only 4 more days... (assuming it takes about 2 days in the mail)

hey, I applied. I really like math/science, but I've never done any engineering or or computer science. my mother was an industrial engineer and my dad writes software, so it's hopefully in the blood. My physics class is USELESS. we won't have honors physics until next year, and We only go through momentum in first semester, and now we're sortof doing thermodynamics and gas laws, but I don't think we'll even get to circuits this year. UGH. I could take IB Physics again next year, but I'd rather go to this and then maybe take IB Philosophy, than deal with my Physics teacher again.

I found this program through an alumni (SunJin, would've been in 2004 program?) (she had the certificate on her mantle). She ended up going to Yale, dunno if she applied/got into MIT.

I really really really want to go to WTP this summer, because I am terrible at teaching myself things, and I want to learn about EECS before college. I went to CTY as a youngun, and I applied for Computer Science both times but didn't end up getting it.

Hope to see you there? mail on monday! ahhh!

Reaching... wow, we are really in the same boat, for alot of the things you wrote.

Yeah, I really want to go to WTP too, though after re-reading my essays...

Anyway, today I visually stalked (from inside my house..windows...) the mailman as she drove around my neighborhood and finally landed in front of my house, and what do I get? Nothing. Monday...further stalking will ensue.

i like how the mailman is a she :-D. with RSI i was calling my mother every day between classes til it came, and i intend to do the same with WTP.

wait is there mail tomorrow even though its a holiday? bad enough that the april SAT scores are going to be a week late. what am i going to be like next year waiting to hear from colleges?!

Yeah, there will be mail Monday. I actually checked the US Postal Service website.

haha thats awesome. I don't want to get too excited about it though because there is a high probability that I won't get in. :(

Yeah...trying to convince myself I won't get in. Deleted the link from my bookmark and everything.

I wonder how I'll feel if (when?) I get rejected. Never applied to anything like this before...

Argh, I applied to that....and I've probably been rejected. Will find out in about 19-20 hrs' time...not that I want to know.

I've never applied to anything like this before either. I did audition for a movie once though. Well kinda. My friend helped me make a tape and I sent it in. I got flat out rejected. But thats a little different. I have stupid track practice today at 10 though. Nobody better take in the mail. I want to be the first one to see either a big package or (more likely) a small letter of death.

Well, best of luck to everyone camping out by the mailbox today.

Mail has come and gone. Nothing.
Ugh...another day.

What? Oh man. That stinks. I'm still keeping an eye out for my mail though. It takes 20 minutes to drive to MIT from my house; how can it take more than 3 days in the mail?

Mail re-routing stuff is crazy. I got my grades today which my school (ten minutes away) mailed out three days ago.

I'm actually very tempted to call...though I'm sure nobody would appreciate that.

haha go for it, decisions are already made. They can't punish you for being excited, then again I doubt they'd tell you. Nothing helpful on the website. Not that there would be. Except they are doing that mechanical engineering program. Higher chance of getting into something I suppose. Although I don't know if I would be as excited about mechanical as EE or CS. Oh well. I suppose I'll go study for AP US history now and try to forget about it till tomorrow. It can't possibly be later than tomorrow right?

Let me know if calling gets you anywhere, eightmagnets.
