WTP Summer Program

Yeah, tell me too, eightmagnets!

Sorry guys... waiting at least two more days before I call. Don't want to be TOO neurotic. Giving the mail five days.

Hope it comes tomorrow, for all of us.

Screw being neurotic...go call! lol.

It can't possibly be later than tomorrow, right?

Guess is can...urgh.
Mail should not take this long... I wish they used email.

Anyone else get anything?

Nothing yet. A friend keeps telling me that since it's the acceptance letter, it's too heavy and needs more time getting here. But I live in New York, so you'd think it'll arrive by now.

I wished they had email/phone notification after a certain date.

Pandora I love how your friend thinks.

im drowning in anticipation.

I'm now scared they never got my application to begin with. I didn't include the little self-addressed postcard because I trusted the postal service.

..so NO ONE has gotten anything? (CMD...lol, mail from 20 minutes away is taking a looong time)

ya i thought about that. i sent mine in at the last minute too. but yea, i havent gotten anything. trust me, you'd know if i found out.

hey.. did anyone get rejected because they were OVERQUALIFIED? they wrote that in my rejection letter :(

you got a letter?!
how are you qualified?
take it as a compliment i suppose...

yes i got a letter today, i live in Utah btw so for all the west coast people, i'm assuming your letters are coming soon.

how am i qualified? honestly i thought i WASN'T qualified...i've done some science research and know a little bit about computer programming... nothing special really, just your typical asian student. i really wanted to go though... sigh

Good luck to everyone else!

I GOT IN!!

....just kidding....havne't gotten anything yet...and I'm in Minnesota. Ugh! Not fair, ultimateslacker, at least you know and you live farther away than I do!

Maybe... Pandora's friend is right and the larger, more pleasant packages take longer in the mail...?

is hopeful

Hey, I applied to WTP too. I actually got my letter yesterday (Monday) and I live in Virginia! Your postal system must be messed up or something.
I didn't get into EECS, but I did get into their pilot mechanical engineering program since I've already done both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I think it'll be in the same dorms and doing the same field trips as EECS, though.
Hope you guys get your letters soon!

I'm a bit disappointed....

Got my letter today..and it says, "you are definitely among the top students and overqualified. We believe our course will not be new to you"

you can be overqualified for a camp??? :-)

oh well...waiting for the wharton science camp letters...

^^yep that's what my letter said too... i don't understand their reasoning for overqualification either. :P

It may be simply that you guys have done so much work in EE and CS that doing their camp won't teach you anything new and will be a "waste of spot" so to speak. It really, really sucks for you though. :(

HUGE congrats, though, midnightchild! That's awesome! :)

ultimateslacker, i think we have the same problem...we both did a summer research and abit of CS knowledge...

don't know their reasoning either...it says high competition, but kick out the overqualified ppl before the competition of spots starts...sigh

No, seriously guys, it makes sense. (I went last year).

The girls who knew anything in CS were bored out of their heads while they explained the general concept of programming to those of us (like me) who'd never even touched HTML before, let alone java. It would be a waste of your time more than anything. They want smart girls (like you) who'd never considered EECS before (unlike you).

Seriously -- the girls who knew how to program before were SO bored/slightly angry at wasting their time writing cute little programs like "Hello World" every day. Whereas we (as non-programmers) were overwhelmed by all of it, and learned SO much from it. :)
