I'm very excited to have gotten in and I posted this on the WTP board as well, but how exclusive is the program? Does it look good on a college app? It is quite expensive and that makes me think that it may not be that exclusive, but if anybody has any insight, please let me know through this board or a message. I want to make sure that if i do it, that it is well worth it because i am also thinking of getting a job or travelling. thanks.

BUMP!!!!

please, i really need to decide if i should go and i have no idea about the prestige of the program!! Anyone's input would be helpfulll!!!

Well the acceptance rate seems to be about one in 4. Some people have been saying the % acceptance is lower than MIT undergrad, but I don't see how that works out since 60 girls (40 EECS, 20 ME) get in out of roughly 200.

I'd say it's nowhere close to something like RSI in terms of prestige, but its definitely nothing shoddy. Maybe if you posted what your other options were people could better help you decide?

Well my other options aren't exactly great, but I was thinking of getting a job (making money instead of spending 3000 dollars worth) and possibly helping out with some research at a local college.

I guess it pretty much just boils down to personal preference. On the one hand, WTP sounds like it would be a lot more fun than a job (assuming its some minimum-wage summer type job...for all I know it could be a really cool job!) On the other hand, WTP costs quite a bit of money, while a job costs negative money. The research sounds like it could be interesting, depending on the subject and your level of involvement.

In terms of college apps, it sounds like your two options are pretty much the same. A job shows responsibility and initiative; WTP or research shows passion and could help you stand out from the crowd. The only way I could see it making a big difference in terms of applications is if there were some extended benefit. For example, is the research anything you could enter into a science competition? On the flip side, could you use what you learn at WTP to start some kind of computer club or electronics program at your school?

Hehe I guess I've answered your question with about 5 more questions. Sorry about that -_-

In summary: Have a great summer and do whatever you think you would enjoy the most (taking $ into account).

Helpful, I know :)

thanks for the input actually, it helped. bottom line is i should do what I want..not what looks good.

WTP is worth the money. I would go again even if it cost twice as much, it made my summer AMAZING. GO.
