I believe its usually before or shortly after presidents day so that could be this week or early next week from Looking back at the thread on this topic the last several years.
does anyone know if they look at first semester senior grades? My S school still has not submitted first semester senior grades till Feb. 12th-this Friday. The school did submit first quarter grades in Nov though.
So, do they set up some interview (phone/skype) with the applicant for screening before announcing the finalist or is the selection for finalist based on academic, EC records and essay only? My daughter has applied and was wondering what the next step is. Thanks.
I believe that the next step is the decision that Wash Univ will make in the next week or so who becomes a finalist and invited for interview weekend. I think the “screening” was already done and decisions made about who will be finalist based on common ap, stats, essays, recommendations, etc. I think at the finalist weekend they than make the decision who is offered full versus partial scholarships. I could be wrong though. not holding on for hope. I believe thousands apply for these scholarships with only hundreds invited to be finalist. Good luck to everyone.
Thank you @momof2eagles! I know it is very competitive but can still hope until their final decision is made!
So aren’t the scholarships supposed to come out tomorrow?? And do all finalists get a call?
I have no idea about the date of the notifications and I’m just as anxious. Good luck to everyone!
@momof2eagles seeing as the scholarship committees make their decisions so early, I doubt they pay much attention to first semester grades. Most high schools don’t send them out until late January or early February, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
Has anyone heard anything yet? It seems quite possible that we will be notified this weekend, or maybe even today. If not, then probably sometime next week. Best of luck to everyone!
Hey everyone, I applied to the Mylonas, Nemerov, and University Scholars programs and am anxious to hear back as well. It would be especially awesome to hear back today, because – while WashU is one of my top choices – I have some other schools that have asked me to come interview at about the same time as I expect WashU’s finalist weekend would be, so I’d like to know one way or another as soon as possible so that I can respond to those other schools accordingly.
Someone said it might be 5 pm today…
It seems a bit early compared to previous years (which match up with notification on the coming Friday–2/19) but it would be great if it was today
Is it by email I assume?
If understand correctly, an e-mail will be sent instructing you to check the online applicant portal (WashU Pathway). Just checked at 5:03 and no changes in DD’s portal yet, so perhaps we’ll have to wait a bit longer. For those who applied RD, if you end up being a finalist for a merit scholarship, then presumably that’s a pretty clear indication that you will be admitted?
Merit scholarships at Wash U. This is a school that does the opposite of need based aid right? The more money you have the more likely you are to get in and to get some funding. Is that correct?
@4X529s Yes, based on past years the students selected for the merit scholarship got in during the RD round.
Not sure the answer.
All I know is that my D reported her ACT scores and GPA. She also wrote a nice CA essay and got some recommendations.
I didn’t report my income at all.
She got in during the ED round.
My gut is that student accomplishment and potential for future success has some play in the admissions process.
So, based on my experience, this is a school that lets you in based on similar factors as other USNWR top 20 schools.
So is it actually possibly we find out over the weekend? Or is it for sure next week based on the past?
Are all finalists guaranteed at least a half tuition scholarship?
@ChicagoSportsFn If all the scholarships are being discussed in February, what do they do with the ED students?
@GloriaDoe I think I read somewhere that around 8 are selected for interviews for each of the Arts and Sciences ones, and there are up to 4 who get full scholarships and 4 who get half. That being said, I don’t think it’s guaranteed. So if I’m not mistaken, it’s possible that all finalists get at least half, but it’s also possible that they choose to give less than 4 of either the half or the full scholarship.
