Yah!!!! I GOT IN!

I received my appointment on January 27, 2005 without an LOA first.

ya i also recieved an appointment in mid december without an loa and i needed an eye waiver.

my son did not have an LOA. A friend he met right before summer seminar last summer just got his appointment and he didn't have an LOA either. My son had two nominations but neither was a principal. We are at a loss as to why he heard so soon (right after the 1st of the year) and we are really curious but it seems inappropriate to be anything but extremely grateful.

I'm at a loss (since at least four of you have appointments without LOA's) as to why the BGO would tell my son that the first round of appointments wouldn't be at least until March. Think he's getting the runaround? If he isn't going to be offered an appointment I wish they'd let him know so he can pursue other options.

EC's Mom:
The BGO may be totally correct even in light of the others already getting appointments. He/she may be speaking for your area, or state. There is a demographic quota that must be filled. Perhaps those already receiving appointments are from less competitive states, or from the states first on a list for the admission board appointments. They have to start somewhere, and I would be inclined to think that they have a very systematic method of review and appointment.

Your state may be more competitive, or slated for a later round. This is only February. The bulk of the appointments are send toward the middle of March, usually by April 1st. Even then, as appointees decline, (look on this board alone, there are many with multiple academy appointments) new slots are created for those next on the global list. Some appointments last year were offered as late as May and June!

Remember that many of those applying RD to civilian schools have not heard yet either. Notifications from them usually arrive around the beginning of March, right in line with the Academy timetable.

Good Luck to all,
CM

At CVS the admission counselor said they weren't even going to start looking at files until after January 30. We can't explain why my son's appointment was so early but I really do think it was the exception rather than a rule. Keep the faith!

thanks for the assurances, CM and doglover1585! Guess we just have to keep on being patient...

Apparently, there were a few files reviewed before January 30, given those that received appointments in December.

EC's mom, I had an LOA, but I'm not sure receiving it made a difference in the timing of my appointment. The board meets and reviews files every Thursday (or at least that's what I understand) and I doubt there are any specific dates as to when appointments are sent out, but I don't really know for sure.

Since LOA candidates do not count against the MOC's slots, they were probably processed first, once the nominations were official. After that, I would imagine that there is a fair amount of juggling, matching qualified candidates to "available" slots, and then the global list to unused nominations to round out the class and bring it to full strength.

The last information I have is that most appointments will be received by April 15.
Good Luck to all.
CM

As per the USNA Candidate Application Procedures(under Notification of Appointment):

About 40 percent of the total offers of appointments will have been made by mid-January. The remaining candidates selected for appointment will normally be notified by mid-April.
