yeah china’s pretty ahead when it comes to math, physics and chem… sciences
but not so much on social sciences i think hehe

I see. Here in Quebec I have the equivalent of a 13th year - almost everyone has to learn both English and French fluently so I guess it’s a bit longer

I will be doing multi-variable calculus though…and I found the SAT II quite easy

SATs: 2310 (one sitting) (800 CR, 710 M, 800 W)
SAT IIs (one sitting): 710 Biology, 740 Math II, 760 Literature
APs: AP English - 5 AP Biology - 5 AP Calculus - 4 AP Euro (took in Soph year) - 3
GPA: 3.92/4.0
I’m a legacy applicant as well, so I’m hoping that helps!

Btw, I feel so puny after reading some of these scores haha. I had the highest score in my school. I can’t wait for Dec. 15th… it will make or break my year/month respectively haha.

Chinese learn social sciences in a VERY different way from Americans, so I don’t think they can actually be compared.

I’m a Chinese and I’ve never taken any U.S history in China. I registered for the SAT2 U.S History though for the October SAT Subject test. Then I spent about 56 days learning U.S History all by myself, and I scored 800 on the exam :)

At jaylay, above: Well, it is good that decisions come out on december 15, so your broken month/year has only 16 days left in it. Be confident! If you had the highest score in your school, that is definitely something to be proud of, and Yale will hopefully be able to place your score within its proper context.

for example, look at YoYoAnna’s comment. An 800 is brilliant, all on your own work, well done YoYoAnna.
However, I highly dislike a system that will award top marks to someone who studied content out of 1 book for a few weeks (as opposed to learning US history for years, however an 800 is still a fantastic achievement and shows great potential to learn as in YoYoAnna’s case), and a system which makes a 750 so much better than a 680, when in some tests the difference may only be 3 or 4 questions (and what if for those 3 or 4 questions, you had got each down to one of two possibly-correct answers, and were just unlucky and guessed wrongly?)

All that said, I still feel a bit puny reading CC SAT scores as well.

There is no flawless system in the world, and camparing to the “one-exam-determines-all-ur-life” college entrance exam system in China, the one in U.S is already fair to some extent.

i’m shocked i mean seriously a 800? US history? All on your own? whoa that’s really really amazing hehe YOYOANNA U ROCKKKKKK
i kinda screwed up my sub tests. ahh who am i kidding, i kinda screwed up my SAT and SAT SUB TESTS HEHE
So right now i’m just kinda hoping my that my essays and rls will make up for some of the crappy scores i got
oh and yoyoanna i am from china hehe
ohhhh and although i screwed up my SAT tests i did get a decent toefl score hehe
hey have u done ur alumni interview yet? or got an interview notice? (i know this is not the interview thread haha i apologize)

In terms of my US History, yes. 800, and on my own. I am very into social sciences, and I love it.

No. I didn’t get any news about interviews. Did you? I don’t think intervies were required in China, only when they need additional information.

personally not applying, but all of you should chill out…you’re all superhuman!

a girl from my school got in last year (RI, private school) with 2150 *one sitting, probably like 94/100 gpa from RD applicant pool (also appplied to 23 other schools), so I think that the vast majority of you will get in!!

Honestly? I think social science taught in China simply SUCK big time. That is one good reason why I am applying to US colleges. And yes, I do admit it being different, but still the horror!
YoYoANNA - fabulous job!!! I remember an associate dean of admissions saying that int’l chinese applicant will stand out scoring high on SAT2 lit. / history compared to piles of 2400 math2+physics+chem. Mourn on myself…
totallysunshine - You have a good point. Like I have said I am not a fan of standardized tests either.

social sciences taught in China could be a horror when everything you learn about are only for one purpose: EXAM. However, even when they taught me only to expect me to get higher score, I still learn alot.

hey, didn’t you get like 800s on world his/ u.s his/ and chem? THAT’S A WOW!!

Are you studying in China now or in U.S? Kinda confused…
