My sister has started reading medieval French poetry. Some if it is really cool, even though the language is significantly different. I’ve read a very, very small amount on the history of French in Ferdinand de Saussure’s Courses in General Linguistics, so smetimes I can help her out, but not really.

My favorite XKCD comic, maybe, since somany are do excellent, is the one where this space body is heading toward earth and they go on this journey to destroy it that looks like something out of a Will Smith summer blockbuster. In the final panel we see the space body is The Little Prince’s home and he’s standing with the flower he loves while the bomb to blow up the whole thing to destroy it before it hurts earth is counting down.

I desperately want to learn German and Italian. Maybe Japanese/Korean one day, lol. German is so… avant-garde haha and I love the flow of Italian. Already speak French so that’s a plus :p

I love how everyone is so interested in languages!

@Millancad - You’re everywhere I am! Do I have a facebook stalker? Just kidding :)

I love languages. French is especially beautiful. I think it’s a girl thing though. Guys should all know how to speak French. So attractive.

Spanish is practical. German is so interesting because it’s different. Latin would be nice to know. Russian, even though I imagine I will never use it. Italian. OMG. Love the accents.

So I’m apparently obsessed with languages? I did not know this until now.

^I used to really want to read this book in Russian that isn’t published so often in English and I had this insane idea to learn Russian just to do it. (I was somewhat inspired by the fact that my Art History teacher told us that Thomas Jefferson supposedly learned Italian to read Palladio’s writings on architecture). I found the book in English though, but only in text book format so it costs like $200 normally and isn’t available in most libraries. I read it and it was pretty good. But I still have a copy of it made for “Russian learners.” Maybe it’ll happen someday.

I would love to learn Russian (and get better at my French, lol). There are so many great novels written in Russian that I wish I could read it in its original form.

Handala92 - Don’t worry. They have tons of stuff to be doing right now. And I can’t even remember if I set up my eli account. I think I might have…or maybe not?

ew german is so gutteral though. and I agree, spanish is ugly too. i think english is somewhat in between (though british english sounds way better than american)
chinese/korean/japanese/hindu etc all sound pretty bad too.
french and italian are really melodious languages

Yeah, French is beautiful. I don’t know how to explain how sound can have an appearance, but French is definitely a very physically attractive language JK.

I agree with Anonymous and Stupefy about French. Such a gorgeous language!

My school’s orchestra/wind ensemble is going to Italy for April break this year. I’m so excited!!! I’ll be able eat nutella gelato every single day! Hahahahaha :]

nutella is the freaking BOMB. I feel so bad for people with hazelnut allergies. when I was in paris, I put it on everything: crepes, waffles, bread yumm and YES nutella gelato is superb. nougat’s also good

That’s exactly why I took French classes. The language is so soothing. But apparently French with a thick French accent can sound very guttural.
I think Japanese is very pretty, too. The only problem I have with it is that their voices are so high pitched.
So at my school, all the language teachers can speak 2 or 3 more languages besides the one they teach. Like my French teacher speaks Spanish, Chinese, and a little bit of Russian. Is anyone else’s school like this?

Not mine, haha. We only offer Spanish, and the two Spanish teachers only speak (South American) Spanish. …Well, Spanish and English. I think only Spanish would be a bit of a problem, haha.

I never cared for Spanish that much, mostly because it’s always been the only thing my school’s ever had, but now that I’m on an almost-fluent level, I love it. It makes me so excited to be able to listen to music, watch shows, read books, etc, in Spanish, and actually understand it. It’s just so cool, haha.
Besides, I like Spanish food. It’s spicy!
