im applying early too! decided like 4 days ago…my letter of rec teachers werent too happy about that…sigh yale supplement here i come!

I’m doing SCEA to play softball :)

So you think i should cut, at least for yale? im a little over 700 (after having cut like at least 250)…

^Certainly 700 is much better than a 1000+ essay (that’s just asking for trouble).

Have you let anyone else read your essay? Have they commented on the length–how it flows, etc?

Not sure if I’ve posted this here yet, but I decided a few weeks ago to apply Yale SCEA despite my legacy status at Stanford. Good luck to all of you SCEAers!

^There goes a spot for everyone else. :(

I decided not to apply SCEA. I don’t want my first decision to be a rejection. I realized that I have no chance at Yale, so I shouldn’t apply when competition is already higher.

just applied SCEA, sorry guys :P

why would you be sorry?

^Because he thinks he’s guaranteed acceptance because he’s SO GOOD… sigh… the arrogance of some of these people will probably be demonstrated in their application and that does not look very good to admission officers.

I’m pretty sure HIGHreachNoob was just messin around.

Yeahy! Wrote a draft for my commonapp essay! It took me an entire day in front of the computer… Don’t want to do this again :(

It’s 759 words now so I need to cut it down to 600ish…

Now only the second essay (supplement) and the rest of the apps to go! By tomorrow I will have a draft for that one as well. See you guys then

^^^ I think (s)he was just referring to the “spots” that ccuser18 brought up.

Don’t sell yourself short lol.

In the process of editing both my Common App essay and my supplemental Yale essay at the moment. Still have the 500 character (which seems awfully short) Why Yale and the short takes to do.

So if we’re mailing stuff, does it need to arrive by Nov 1st or be postmarked by Nov 1st?

I believe it is postmarked by November 1st.
Getting ready to submit, still working on Why Yale and extracurricular statement. 500 characters is VERY short for Why Yale =(

I know this has probably been asked before. But hypothetically for a amazing student (#1 and perfect SAT) with a adequate amount of ECs and leadership, is it better to apply SCEA with the more competitive pool and higher admission rate or RD with its lower acceptance rate?

I was wondering if 600-620 words (after cutting over 200 words) for the Common App essay would satisfy the Yale admissions officers’ want of approximately 500 words?

Apparently it’s best to keep your essay length within about 50 of the word limit. It surely won’t be grounds for rejection, but it won’t help you.

I see what you’re saying but the word limit is APPROXIMATELY 500 words, so wouldn’t that make the word limit 550 words and then add 50 words on to that and you’ll get 600 words? (Correct me if I’m wrong but I really need 600 words for my essay to be perfect)
