@cheeseisgood- on the fence is a good thing, right? You guys only have three items listed under “required by others”?

yep, only 3

Is the new thing checked off like the others?

yep. i really can’t imagine that my guidance counselor would have sent in my first quarter grades without me asking her to…

referring back to the article about asians, one of the comments stood out to me

“Tell your kids to check “latino” on applications. There is a quota for them and they get preference [over] Anglo-Saxons. You can ligitimately claim that you have some ancestor from a Latin speaking country. Italians you are first in line, what could be more latin that Italy?”

you guys think that holds some validity? cause if so then i might be checking off latino on my RD apps hahaha

In that case, everyone might as well check “black” because science suggests that the earliest humans originated in Africa.

Sure, you can check whatever you want. You’ll know that you’re being dishonest, though.

this was on a harvard thread awhile back, post #26: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/402357-lying-about-race-2.html

My dad knew an Asian who got into Harvard having checked Latino.

I personally think it’s so dumb. Like seriously? If I didn’t eat myself alive because I knew I lied, I would be freaking out about whether I got in truly because I deserved it, or if I didn’t really deserve it, and I stole someone else’s spot.

Doesn’t the common app ask for your parents’ origin? Do people lie about that too?

Hey you guys, Yale SCEA results definitely come out Dec. 15th, right? I’ve heard rumors of other Ivies (e.g., Penn, Columbia) coming out on the 8th and 9th.

Upenn and Cornell have it officially on their website that results are out this coming week… 8thor 9th.

Yale isn’t definite, we’re just relying on past years. I’m guessing they’ll make a formal announcement sometime this coming week.

FWIW, the College Board website lists the 15th as the “deadline” for Yale (and pretty much every other college) to release early decisions. I’m not sure if that’s accurate, but if true, that means that we’re definitely hearing on or before the 15th.

I think Columbia ED has been announced as the 8th as well

I’m not sure where… but I remember reading somewhere that they officially released Dec. 15th at 5:00 PM Eastern time.

@sfaitht7- on the fence can be a good thing, but truly I don’t know. Really there are two fences: admit/differ and differ/reject. But, hey, my counselor could be wrong entirely, or that rumor may just not apply with Yale. All we can do is wait…

I got an email from Yale that said:

“Save this Letter for 2011-2012 Online Decision Notification (Early Action December 15th & Regular Decision March 29th)”

So isn’t it already official?

@ellewww Wow, I did NOT notice that at all, I just scrolled past everything until I got to the instructions for creating my Eli account. Smart cookie

Pretty sure it’s always been December 15th at 5:00 PM EST. Can’t see why it would be any different this year…
11 days!

But really - how are you guys whiling away time?

^ studying for college course exams, conducting research, and beginning a big NSF grant proposal for a new lab instrument. lol. You?

Well I have been doing scholarships, but this week is going to fly by thankfully… 3 (possibly 4) tests, one 5 page paper due, 2 lab write ups, 2 swim meets, and one band concert…
