The wait is killing me, for the same reasons mentioned before about not being able to move on and do my other apps. Trying to pass time with homework and some science readings, as well as the usual ECs. Two weeks seems so close yet so far :(

^Same, but my parents have made me start my other supplements. My heart’s just not in any of them. I’ll probably have to redo them if I get deferred or rejected.

Well, luckily the 15th is a Thursday… I should have classes to distract me for the better part of the day and an EC after school. Can you imagine if Decision Day were on a Saturday? shudder

Yeah, I have an EC ending at 5:00
When I get home —

I guess I’m just focusing on schoolwork, which thankfully will be pretty grand this week, talking to my friends about their decisions… things like that

i don’t know about you guys, but i’m probably not going to go to school either way on friday!

^Hmmm, good idea! Nothing screams “Ivy League student!” like skipping school!

I don’t have school Wed/Thurs/Fri of that week because those are exam days, and seniors get to exempt all exams at my school. So on the plus side I can deal with my admission/rejection/deferral in peace, but then I don’t have anything to distract me.

No one at my school knows that I applied to Yale, so at least if I’m deferred or rejected, I won’t have to deal with everyone’s pity
it would feel amazing to wear a Yale shirt to school next Friday though :)

i can’t think about anything else but the yale decision…it’s completely absorbing my life! does anyone know the percentage of SCEA applicants that are deferred instead of getting an answer right away?

Haha sfaith7. I’m a little jealous of your situation! So many people know that I’m applying to Yale (since it’s really just me and one of my good friends who are applying from my school). I’m a little nervous that I’ll need to tell them all that I didn’t get in.

As for keeping me sidetracked, I have enough school work and ECs to keep me sidetracked until the day. In the meantime… I have more college essays to write :(. Oh Yale, if only you could tell us earlier.

I believe a good chunk of people are deferred.

YALE: Yale admitted just over 13% of its Early Action applicants for the class of 2013, a significant drop from last year’s 18% early admission rate, according to the Yale Daily News. 742 early applicants were admitted from a record applicant pool of 5,557. In addition, the admissions office reported to have sent rejection letters to more than twice as many early applicants as they did last year, denying 38% applicants and deferring 47% of the students who applied. Insiders believe that Yale admitted fewer students this year because more students admitted early from the class of 2012 chose to enroll.

@sfaitht7- I tried keeping it the same way. I used to be in love with Stanford until I visited Yale a year ago and tried just telling people I was applying somewhere else early. I kept it until like 2 months ago when people where able to find out from the counselors and based on where I told my teachers I was submitting stuff. I wish it was still a secret though. Would be awesome to wear a Yale shirt on friday. Of course pending good luck though.

I have half day finals Wed/Thurs/Fri with Bio AP being my only final on friday. Good thing I don’t need to do too well to keep an A haha. I am also really glad that in 2 hours behind. 3pm sounds much more appealing than 5

I convinced my counselor and teachers not to tell anyone and have only told my closest friends (who gave me their oaths too, haha). I’ve gotten good at dodging the “so, where are you applying?” question by saying I’m unsure and apps aren’t due until january 1st, but I don’t know what I’ll do then if I’m not accepted at Yale :/

yeah, everyone at my school knows yale is my dream school and when they hear me talking about it they assume i’ve gotten in already. it will be pretty embarrassing to not get in.

benfranklin1: i had know idea the deferred percentage was so high. i just want to KNOW so i can get excited or move on with my life!

10 days…

haha @melodyisloud… your situation describes mine exactly…

I know @benfranklin1’s statistics are a little dated…
especially since now, Yale has already clarified it’ll accept 650-750 applicants from a 4310 applicant pool
I mean, that makes 15-17% SCEA acceptance for the Class of 2016.

But yeah, Yale’s deferred rate has always been higher than I’ve liked (40% or so), and I don’t suppose that’s going to change this time around.

swim freak’s post #290: Has anyone noticed an additional “required from others” item on their application status page? I have school report, and now school report -Online… Does anyone know how the second one differs from the first?

has anyone else had this update? just wondering. i did not…are there only 2 people on this site with such an update?

I know that Cornell"s ED date got moved up to Dec. 8, and heard that Penn did as well. Any chance of this happening for Yale?

Probably not

I think “required from others” is just the heading that application materials required from others are listed… School report and teacher recs I think.

Ahh I share the same feelings with so many of you. I’ve been pretty open to everyone about my applying to Yale, and so many people are assuming I’ll get in. :

This is probably the biggest anticipation of my life…
