I’m really in applying to Yale for my undergraduate. I want to study architecture, and I am sure of this. However, apparently at Yale, you have to apply for the architecture major in your sophomore year. And also even if I get “accepted” for this major, I might not get into the concentration I want?
“Application to the Architecture Major
Yale College students must apply to enter the major during the spring term of their sophomore year. Following the application and review process, admitted students enter the major during the fall term of their junior year.” http://architecture.yale.edu/school/academic-programs/undergraduate-studies
I’m torn. I really want to go to Yale. But what if I don’t get into the architecture major? And what if I don’t get into the concentration I am interested in? How hard would it be to get into these? I mean, what I want to do with my life is architecture, and not getting to major in it for my undergraduate degree could be a major setback and EXTREME let down. I don’t know how to stress this enough; what I want to do with my life is not interchangeable. It’s not like if I don’t get to major in architecture, I’ll just be like “alright, I guess I’ll do something else.” I hope you understand my concerns.
First, you have to get into Yale . . . and considering that 94% of students are rejected, may I suggest you worry about this AFTER you’ve been accepted.
FWIW: My daughter is a Yale reject. She applied SCEA to Yale as the salutatorian from her high school, with a 97.8 unweighted GPA, a 2280 SAT, 34 ACT, 6 AP’s all 5’s, 6 SAT Subject tests all 750+. She was deferred then rejected. So, no one is assured acceptance.
Hey @isaac2097 I’m planning on attending Yale and I want to study architecture in the design concentration.
I’m an athlete so I have a guaranteed admissions spot and I’m pretty sure I’m going to take it. I had a lot of questions about the architecture program for my coach and he spoke to one of the senior athletes for me about the program.
The senior said that the major is capped at 25 students and that 20 are accepted into the design concentration. He said that he’s never heard of anyone getting denied acceptance into their preferred concentration.
On this link: http://catalog.yale.edu/ycps/subjects-of-instruction/architecture/ it says that the major is (usually) capped at 20 and that 16 are admitted into the design concentration. Notice it says you may petition to change concentrations if you don’t get accepted into your first one.
I realize the senior and this link provide different stats but either way I wouldn’t worry too much about not getting accepted into your preferred concentration. You might want to focus on getting accepted into Yale in the first place… good luck buddy
