S2 rejected, after deferral SCEA. He’s bummed as Yale is his #1 dream school. Then waitlisted at Harvard. Moderating the dejection is a letter from USC today awarding full-tuition Trustee Scholy, and tea with his school principal celebrating his official status as class valedictorian. He’s also admitted to Pomona, UCLA, UCB, Holy Cross, and Santa Clara ( with full-tuition Presidential Scholy). Now awaiting notice from Stanford and all will then become clear. Good luck to all!

I’m so mad about my deferral > rejection. It’s garbage. I’m sure I’m getting rejected Harvard too. This sucks.

lol got rejected
but I don’t even care because I got into University of Pennsylvania!

Well I know I had a 2% chance even going in so before even checking I’m going with denied. It’s all good, I have other choices. Now it’s time to look. Good luck to all!!

sucks knowing i worked on those essays for 6 whole months for no reason.

Any idea how many people get in off the waitlist?

Rejected…oh well. The only thing I’m upset about is spending $90 on that app fee. Such a bummer right there!

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! Such an amazing achievement.

Rejected!! Lol

The CDS gives the number selected off the WL each year:

[Common Data Set (CDS) | Office of Institutional Research](Common Data Set | Office of Institutional Research)

I really wish I hadn’t applied early.

@lolToasty: Why?

Usually around 95-105 from around 1,000 or so waitlisted. Last year I believe there was 996 waitlisted and this year they stated 1,001.

You can’t assume 90-100 will get off the WL this year. Even Yale can only guess their yield. It could be 90-100, or it could be more, it could be less, it could be zero. That’s not an uncommon occurrence to be frank.

^Right and the data is in the CDS for anyone to see.

If Yale was your favorite school it was still your best chance. The EA acceptance was 15.68% as opposed to 4.8% in RD.

Those who have left the idea behind are super lucky. It is an illusion.

True, but only twice in the last 10 years has there been zero accepted off the wait list. I’m trying to give them hope. ;)

Being waitlisted sucks. I’m thinking it’s even worse than being rejected because the next few weeks are going to be torture.

Last year 95 additional students were accepted after being waitlisted. Extremely variable.

Actually it was 104 last year and 98 the year before. Here are the numbers from 2003 on:

2011 104
2010 98
2009 7
2008 59
2007 50
2006 56
2005 0
2004 8
2003 0
