Yale Class of 2018 RD Discussion Thread

@jackson61
Glad you noticed what I did there :wink: HAHAHA. I could eat maggi all day long, all week long. My parents would not approve, but hey if I am hundreds of miles away who can stop me? :wink:

@LAMnuiv

Same, except my situation is even worse. I applied to WHYP+Duke+Stanford [reach], BU [match] and… my local state university.

Now I realize what an atrocious mistake I made. I applied to only 1 safety, 1 match (that isn’t affordable, of course) and then way too many reaches. I plead naivete rather than arrogance, though.

I would not be happy going to my safety. So I dearly hope I have a shot at the more selective colleges.
We’ll find out in just a few days now…
Cheers.

@EtiquetteOfWar
That is basically what I did! (Except in my case, my flagship was a match and I had no safety as I don’t really like any of them in my state). It is not a recipe for lots of acceptances but if it gets the job done come end of this week, I will be grateful for making that risky decision.

BTW, I love your username! I hope you are a historical war buff like me? haha.

@EtiquetteOfWar I feel like I’m the only one who was actually happy with the aid I received from BU, haha. Well, I wish you the best of luck!

wow does anyone else on this thread like cooking? I don’t understand how you all survive if you can’t cook! haha. my parents have had me in the kitchen since I was like 5

I love baking… I can’t cook to save my life, though… #UselessHousewife

My Chinese friend is already signed up for the Maggi club guys… It’s gonna be legen-waitforitIhopeyou’renotlactoseintolerant-DAIRY!

@meghamind
Or we could wait for the ā€œ-daryā€ until after decisions come out if they are good news? :wink: Hahaha.

But there is statistically a 94.7% or so chance it is bad news, so I went for it but sure, we could wait @matrixsurgeon

@LAMuniv

They must have pooled the pennies they were going to give everybody else and gave them to you! :smiley:
I got 20k grant, which just leaves me 40k/year to pay.

The calculator says Yale will give me almost double that!
So, let’s hope.

@matrixsurgeon That’s me and cupcakes. Or pie. :D

@meghamind

If you go look at the data set you can find your SAT/GPA range and get a better approximation… It’s like 11% if your SAT is 2130-2310 and GPA is 3.80-3.95

@EtiquetteOfWar I’ve heard that Yale is extremely generous with FA (huge endowments), so it should be better :)

@EtiquetteOfWar Wait where is this information? I would like to compare :)

@meghamind Noooo, curse you, milk!! :(

@jackson61 I’m partially lactose intolerant too no worries lol it was a HIMYM reference…

Yale is VERY VERY generous with financial aid. Especially to US national families that are middle class and below. I calculated it out with info from the CSS profile and such (I am middle class) and it came out to be less than half the cost of UNC-CH flagship in-state! The hardest part is getting in because they will do, at-least for US applicants, whatever it takes to help ensure that you can afford it if you get in. I am not sure about the policies for international students though.

@meghamind
Lets wait until March 27th and if we both get in, then we can scream the L and D parts all together!! Even though any chance of me getting in is pretty slim at this point.

@meghamind Ahh, see, the only two TV shows I regularly watch - and even then, I only watch them about once a month - are ā€œThe Big Bang Theoryā€ and, oddly enough, ā€œGleeā€.

^ (my friends’ reactions when I mention Glee: ā€œGLEE, [Jackson]? What the hell?ā€ Guess it’s because the only OTHER things I watch are all historical documentaries…)

Had to catch up on all this fun. Never had maggi, so I definitely haven’t lived life yet.

I have never seen megamind either. What is wrong with me.

Sorry for jumping back so late in the conversation but I totally get you guys with the whole gap b/t reaches and safeties situation… I applied to no match schools, too. I’m sort of okay so far (no rejections yet, but that will change this Thursday).
