Yale Class of 2018 RD Discussion Thread

@matrixsurgeon
I think that’s the best attitude someone applying to any highly competitive college could have.
I am dreading and anticipating March 27th.

@book05 Glad to see that I am not alone! March 27th plus minus 2-3 days (for non-Ivy schools) will be an interesting time period. Anybody also have a specific “way” or “process” of opening up college decisions/letters?

On March 27th, I will just check whatever comes first. I will probably be staying up late since I won’t be able to sleep anyway.

For those deferred from SCEA, have you already sent in an update letter?

@book05, Decisions come out 4pm EST.

@my88keys
Where did you get the 4pm EST information? I know that it is March 27th for sure for all the Ivy League schools but could never official times for this year. I always thought it was 5-6pm EST time frame. If it is 4pm EST, then I will find out right after I get home which I do not look forward to.

@matrixsurgeon, It might actually be 5pm EST, because I’m CST, so I mix things up. But, it’s not verified by theri websites, but that’s what they’ve done every year. But that doesn’t mean all are available. They usually do them in waves.

@my88keys
I think it was 5pm EST. I am 6 hours ahead of that (German time), should probably have mentioned that haha.

hey guys so i have a question. i know that interviews have nothing to do with one’s qualifications but i live in the new england area and there is no way for an alumni to be unavailable to hold an interview for me. i doubt that this has anything to do with my application, but should i contact the admissions office to confirm that my info was passed on to the alumni committee that organizes interviews?

@Happyppah…I have the exact same doubt. Though we are told that the interview doesn’t bear much weight, not being contacted by an alumnus does get us paranoid! Even I am an international student and didn’t visit the campus and was really looking forward to an alumni interview. Is it ok to contact Yale for one? Or is such a thing discouraged?

@Happypah
I don’t think they did not pass on your information to the alumni committee.

I personally wouldn’t overthink it. There is an interviewer available in my area and a friend of mine has been interviewed. I certainly wouldn’t ask for an interview, you were not assigned one and asking for one might not make the best impression. :slight_smile:

@Happyppah
I think that if you live in the area close in proximity to the university itself or in a area with an abnormal number of alumni, the highest number of applicants tends to be from that area(s). So as there are more interviewers, there are also alot more applicants. It is basically luck of the draw for alumni interviews at most places as per the experienced members on this forum (T2E64,etc). For example, I live in an area that is close to duke (15 min) and I applied several days before the deadline and I still have not been notified.

For Yale, I have not been contacted so I think I just am unlucky. I hope to get one, but I am not concerned if I do not get one. I have had great experiences with interviews so far and I realize the importance (not always measured by admissions standpoint) of the interview.

has anyone received a likely letter this year? I know Yale usually does this around this time

@roxy481
yes, a good number of people on this thread (their posts about LLs are in previous pages) have received Likely Letters, mostly STEM ones.

what is the supplementary material deadline?

@dontor: they are in full read mode. Even all interviewer write ups are supposed to have been submitted. You can safely assume anything you submit now will only be a crapshoot if it gets evaluated.

@matrixsurgeon I too have not been contacted for an interview, so you’re not alone. I really wish I had a chance to have one with Yale, for interviews so far have always been a rewarding experience to know the school better and Yale was my number one school after submitting.

No interview for me either :(

international student here…didn’t get an interview. Any internationals who did?

@Conscience13 Nope. International here and didn’t receive one either.
