Are international interviews merit based/selective?
(International - no interview.)

No alumni interviews, international or domestic, at any of the top schools are based on merit, at-least based on what I know. They all depend on where you live and how many alumni (ones that interview) live in that particular area. And beyond that, it is all about the luck of the draw in terms of who gets to interview first and who doesn’t. I have gotten interviews from Brown, Cornell, and Penn, but then have not gotten one from Harvard, Columbia and Yale and I am sure that there are alot of Ivy League Alumni in my area.

I’m not sure if this applies, but one of my friends got interviews had an interview at Harvard recently, and then abou 3 days later, received a likely letter. He’s an athlete, but he wasn’t actually recruited and isn’t assured a spot.

To continue the trend, I myself haven’t received a Yale interview, but unlike some, there definitely won’t be many Yale grads in my country. But I also did get a Brown one, over skype.

Does Yale do skype interviews?

@TrinidadJames22 Yale does do skype interviews. My friend got one (and he got in). I got in SCEA as well and I didn’t have an interview at all. Someone at my school who applied RD got an interview last week. This interview thing is really confusing with no real trend, so I wouldn’t read too much into it.

I live in Australia and I had an interview!

Anyone else Apply to Yale NUS?

Got contacted today for an interview…

@TrinidadJames22 …I applied to Yale-NUS as well…I had my interview 3 weeks back. It was pretty okay.
How was yours?
And did your interviewer by any chance tell you when the decisions would come out?

@Conscience13
Yale as well as all the other Ivy League schools will release decisions to all RD applicants on March 27th at 5pm EST. This is as per the Ivy League Common Agreement. Also called “D-Day” or “Rejection Day.”

So, even Yale-NUS? I thought it followed a different admission process…

^ March 19th.

^ Oh wow! Thanks! And any idea how many or what percentage of applicants are interviewed? Looks like Yale-NUS has deferred a lot in round 1!! Wonder what round 2 is going to be like… Also, I remember my interviewer saying they might increase the strength to 200 this year.

No idea, I haven’t had mine yet.

What sort of questions did they ask you? Honestly, I just checked a box…didn’t even fill out the supplement they sent me, thought that was it. But now I’m looking at their curriculum and I’m like…“Wow, that’s literally the best curriculum I have seen in my life, ever”. So now I’m actually considering it as an option.

Problem is Singapore for me, bubblegum can get you prison there, so for someone like me with fairly strong casual drug habits, it might be a nightmare.

Please note that there is a NUS 2018 thread here:

.

lol. So I could have four rejection letters to read all in a row. At least I could just get the worst day of my life over with right then and never have to deal with rejection like that again. :P

I’ve been offered an interview for next week, but it seems too late. Is there any reason in particular I’ve been asked to interview just 10 days before decisions are released?

@Shutterstock …that does look like a very good sign. Shows you must have gone to the committee; someone there must have requested that you be interviewed to help them make a decision. Is the interviewer an alumnus or an admission officer?
All the Best for the interview!

@Conscience13
Turned out to be an admissions officer. Interview went well though.

Should I be very worried about no interview from Yale-NUS? I’d really love to go there, but I only answered the ‘Why Yale-NUS?’ question and haven’t heard anything from them since then? :frowning:
