I think the second interview is about getting to know you a little bit better, and at least for me, my interviewer had some follow-up questions about my application. (It was a curious line of inquiry, not scrutiny of my application - so brush up on what your answers were and be ready to talk about them)
My advice would be to talk about what you’re genuinely excited about at Yale. One of my questions was something along the lines of “Your current school is a great University; why do you want to come to Yale?” this was a time for me to mention particular programs Yale has that I was attracted to; I also said being able to create a community in the different cultural centers (Cultural Centers | Yale College).
The second interview felt like a conversation, but I would prep by knowing generic interview questions (strengths, weaknesses, times where you overcame a challenge, etc.) as well as specific Professors, courses, cultural centers, clubs, societies that you think would be a good fit for you and why. I also looked up who my interviewer was to know what area of the University they were linked to.
One thing that caught me off guard was when he asked me what particular questions I had, and I quickly made up a question about financial aid – that being said, I think having one or two questions ready for the interviewer would be wise!
I did not submit an optional interview and didn’t get interview request as of this time. Was there a case where admitted student wasn’t interviewed at all? We did talk last year a bit. How do you like Yale so far?
I did submit an optional interview because why not? It was a way to market myself more to the admissions committee.
Yale is awesome, the time commitment is high, but that’s to be expected – it takes a little bit of time to get your footing, but the community support has been top-notch. The EWSP program is only getting better by streamlining a lot of the logistics that made being a non-traditional student annoying at times (financial aid, GI Bill knowledge, child stipend relief, to name a few).
You know what, you are one of reasons why I demand to get in Yale. I love Yale alumni a lot. Whenever I ask question from them, I always get a answer with details and warm replying. Thank You So Much!
I have a really interesting question about some EWSP whiteout a interview?
I was under the impression that I was done for given that I wasn’t offered an interview yesterday. On this day last year some people were given one, and the next day (the 20th), everyone else was rejected.
Yeah, I am referring to last year’s thread. Some people got an interview request on the 19th and then everyone else on the thread was rejected on the 20th.
That is my understanding, but according to @buttermilkboy55 it looks that students were admitted without interview… another possibility is that it has changed since
My understanding is for EWSP applicants it is mandatory:
first round with optional stand out interview
then
selected candidates who made it through first round got a mandatory interview with AO,
rejected applicants received their update…
finally
final decision released for those who have been interviewed
(with two waves to receive interview invitation)
Only regular aplicants and transfer students have optional interview which is strongly recommended, if the interview was not mandatory it would be specified the same way it is for traditional and transfer students.
That is my opinion and interview is part of the application process…
