AdmissionAddict -- I know they are not supposed to know anything about my application other than where I attend high school, and they shouldn't (interviews should be about understanding the individual behind the numbers). The interview simply did not give me a great feeling. The interview was conducted differently than I expected and that most likely disconcerted me.

Okay so my interviewer just called me and was like... I indicated in my report that Yale looks very much like it's your top choice. I will take that as a good sign.

Then it got sort of strange - he also asked if I had applied for financial aid and if money would be a factor in my college decisions. I said it would, but not if I got into Yale. He then asked if getting merit scholarships from other schools would lure me away, and I said no. Next, he bashed Harvard for 10 minutes, which is not so unexpected.

Why did he ask me this stuff about financial aid?

mist--He was violating several of Yale's guidelines for alumni interviewers. His questions mean nothing other than the guy doesn't know what he's doing. I'm sorrry you didn't have a more competent or sensitive interviewer.

I told him that my dad works in a different city (when he asked) and he assumed that it was because of "tough economic times," which sort of made me mad. I explained that my dad had better opportunities in a different city, and has been working there since before the financial crisis...

He also referred to other schools as "lesser" schools.

mist--AFTER you have your decision from Yale, I would report your interviewer to the admissions office, stating that he asked repeatedly about your financial situation and bashed other schools. The admissions office wants to know about people like this because they are bad representatives for Yale. The admissions office will likely pass the word on to the local alum who coordinates alumni interviews for your area and that person should take your interviewer off his/her list.

I had my interview today. It went pretty good I think, I'm not sure though. It was just an an hour at his office, and he thought I was applying to Yale for all the right reasons. He said that he has to send his report out asap.

^ what reasons did you say?

I never got to have my Yale interview...I'm assuming we were supposed to call the office or something?

residential college system, the people, and some other specific things. He said thats what he liked about Yale so I got lucky. He said most of the people he interviews just tell him "because its one of the best schools".

silver: if you check the RD Admissions Interview thread, you'll see that getting to interview is based on the no. of volunteers in your area. If they are lacking, you well may not receive one -- but this isn't held against you either
