Yale-NUS interview round 1

If you don’t get contacted for an interview by tomorrow, I think that means that you got deferred.

Just had my interview! My interviewer said that 2/3 of the students will come from Singapore, while 1/3 will come from international applicants. And that’s out of only 150 people they hope to matriculate! According to my math that’s a…very small chance haha

@speckle8 wow! You guys should be feeling optimistic about Yale (Despite no contact) which is awesome

Oh, geez, so 50 people from the entire rest of the world? Anyone know how many applied? And were offered interviews?

welllllll if round one interviews were from Nov 19- Dec 10, and there are multiple interviewers doing multiple interviews a day, that’s, say, 300 to 500 interviews? Or maybe my calculations are totally off. My interviewer said that a lot of people who applied though (and even interviewed) in reality didn’t express a lot of interest to go to a small start up college in Asia. So I guess we’ll see on Friday! And @CedarDog, I don’t think it’s indicative of admissions to Yale one bit. The two institutions are completely different, and thus looking for different types of applicants. There may be some overlap, but I don’t think it’s fair at all to say interest by one indicates interest by the other.

If you applied SCEA, I think it is not even 50 from the world. They have three rounds… so I say 15-20 from this round?? I am getting so nervous now.

Great… 300-500 interviews for ~50 slots. That suggests that Yale-NUS’s acceptance rate is <10%.

I’d imagine a decent number of applicants were like, ah, what the heck, I’ll send my Yale app to NUS because the school looks interesting. Then I researched it/Singapore further and it wouldn’t be a good fit…

I’m guessing I got an interview because I’ve studied abroad in high school. That wouldn’t be as big a factor for New Haven Yale, so I’m trying not to read too much into the NUS interview. :/

Yeah, it’s really hard to not be optimistic about getting past the first cut for NUS, but it’s hard tell what got you there.

yeah, my interviewer said that a lot of people who applied through the Yale application turned out not having a whole bunch of interest in actually moving to Singapore to attend school there. How did your guys’ interviews go?

It was literally almost perfect. Not even joking.

But on the downside, it was so much better than my Yale interview (even though that was pretty good also) );

What about yours?

It was great! Besides the whole rescheduling debacle. The interviewer and I had a lot in common. I hope I conveyed enough interest about Yale-NUS though! and my Yale interview was overwhelmingly meh (at least I think so)

I’m practically in the same situation as you, speckle8. With the interviews, I mean.

No word yet even though I didn’t get an interview. So maybe they’ll release them all at the same time.

My interviewer told me that decisions for Round 1 would be released December 15th Singapore time. So, December 14th here: the same day as Yale.

So, do the decisions come out today? Does anyone know at what time?

I have no clue but it’s only 8:40am in singapore.

Assuming they are released 5 PM Singapore time on December 15th, we should get them:

3 AM CST
4 AM EST
2 AM MST
1 AM PST

…

I think.

My interviewer told me it would out between Dec.15th and 17th, most likely on the 17th.
I’m guessing since 15th is a Saturday?

Meryl2012, when did you have said interview?

My interviewer (on 12/7) said decisions would be out on the 15th.
