Yale University Early Action for Fall 2023 Admission

Yes, I meant financial docs. I stand corrected

@lpiske @kidforcollege it may not mean anything, but from what I noticed from last year’s (and previous years’) thread is that a few applicants who were contacted by FA just a week or two before the decisions, got accepted.
I am no expert, not even close. I could be completely wrong, so don’t quote me on it  Good luck to everyone. Y’all deserve the best, whatever the outcome is.

We’re right on schedule with about a week or so to go. The nervous energy is high, and everyone is looking for a sign. It’s called portal astrology.

Yes, there are late changes to the portals and people try to infer meaning from those changes. Do we know the technical or operational reasons why those changes appear? No.

Did some past applicants who saw changes come back to the board to celebrate their Yale acceptances? Yes, but others disappeared from the board —unhappily, perhaps.

At other need-blind schools I follow, the portal astrology also heated up as the predicted or announced decision day drew closer. There, I saw examples of kids who excitedly reported FA portal changes and who later announced their deferrals or rejections.

Need-blind schools separate the admissions and FA work. We cannot infer meaning from (or take any meaningful action due to) these portal changes.

Worse, assigning import to these things can lead to needless despair and anxiety for kids who either get their hopes up or worry why they can’t see things happening in their portals.

Agree 100%. Thanks for that! I think this whole experience should be fun rather than stressful, whatever the outcome may be. That’s what I told my DD. What we can control is our work. What we can’t control are the decisions from these colleges. There’s no point worrying about things that we can’t control. You’re right on the mark. Thanks @Metawampe

My financial aid checklist has been complete and unchanging since November 17th. Today, they randomly added another two items to complete. Is this a good sign since we’re so close to the deadline or am I delusional lol? Also important to note that the forms ask for a “Yale ID” which I’m 90% sure is different from the Application Reference ID
 someone help

You may want to scroll up a bit and read posts #279 and #286.

I know that Yale is need blind, but I find it weird that they would wait until the week before the release date to ask for more info when my financial aid was marked as completed for weeks. Regardless of what their policy states, I’m hoping that it means something simply because it makes logical sense. Also, accepted students in the past have reported the exact same thing. I’ll be back in a week.

Obviously I know not to get my hopes up but the sheer amount of students who have reported the same thing is something to think about. Staying hopeful regardless!

In the world of portal astrology, this is indeed a leading indicator of acceptance. I don’t think they go thru the lengths of FA review unless they are serious. I know that one shouldn’t believe in astrology but it’s as good a sign as it gets in my view. Good luck and I hope it comes thru for you!!

Thank you! Best of luck to you as well (or whoever is related to you and applying, lol) I will be back with an update

Question: how many applicants who were asked for FA docs/clarifications in the last week and were later deferred or rejected came back to post that update? (Hint: very few people who got rejected post, or provide such details).

Regardless, I wish you and the other applicants here well. Hope it works out!

Good luck to you! The Yale ID (or the student ID) says something. When I spoke to Yale FA a few weeks ago, they said SID is only for admitted students. So, who knows. I hope you get in. Best wishes!

Since we’re on the discussion of financial aid, is it a problem if my FA Checklist on Yale’s applicant portal is completely blank? I applied for FinAid, but nothing has shown up on my portal since November 1 (image below). Thus, I have no way of checking if Yale has actually received my FAFSA, CSS, W-2 form, etc. as my checklist has been empty since the day I got my portal.

Yes, this also stood out to me. I read several Reddit posts from admitted students saying that they were asked to submit docs that required a Yale ID and some were even emailed before decisions came out with an ID number to complete their forms with. So it could honestly go either way but I have hope lol

That’s odd, I would send them an email or call the Financial Aid office asap. But if you get in, it’s not the end of the world, it just means you won’t get your package with your decision.

Aren’t the interview reports due tomorrow? I have a feeling that decisions have not been made yet. They probably will convene later this week to discuss and recheck everything early next week.

Yeah on the podcast they talk about it. Final decisions likely have not been made but I’m sure they’ve done some sorting. I’m pretty sure final review is mainly confirming/finalizing decisions and deciding on edge cases but I could be wrong

Are these documents anything besides the usual financial aid stuff like tax returns, W2s etc? My family also received a request for those but it seemed pretty procedural to us. Also, if the document requires an student ID, how do they expect you to submit it?

Isn’t all that submitted through the IDOC or CSS? I can’t recall but I know we submitted all that a long time ago for the schools that requested it. It also requested student tax returns if applicable.
