FYI. From Yale Daily News:
Oct 31. We live in California but he goes to a boarding school on the east coast.
Thanks! Iāll take only second-worst . . . .
Interesting note speculating this could be Yaleās last test optional year. Who knows, but that one AO was definitely not saying anything inconsistent with that idea.
Interestingly, first place goes to the year where Princeton did not offer any form of EA. I wonder how may of the applicants were cross overs. Otherwise there has been a steady increase.
One thing I am curious (not that we will ever find out) is how the TO number shakes out. Meaning, is the increase disproportionally made up of TO applicants?
Also interesting is the diversity strategy. Maybe interesting is the wrong word. Are you effectively taking race into consideration if you have an AO specifically in charge of recruiting at a majority minority school? And is that AO the reader/familiar with the applicant?
My daughter submitted 10/15 and we were asked for financial info yesterday, I think they are working through them.
I note the DOJ/ED jointly issued guidance, and it includes specific guidance on targeted outreach (starting bottom of Page 3):

Based on the content of the Daily News article, it seems to me Yale is obviously trying to stay well within that guidance, and to do so they are walling off the officers who will be considering race during outreach (which is permitted) from actual admissions decisions.
I imagine most schools have similar programs. Thanks for sharing that.
Jesus.
What do you mean? Did someone contact you?
Yeah, it makes a lot of sense. Obviously the other common thing is the new individualized experience supplementals where the applicant can, if they choose, discuss the relevance of their ethnicity. And then admissions officers can consider those, but it does seem like it would be taking some unnecessary risks to have the same officers also doing targeted outreach.
Hello Everyone.
I have a few questions and hope some of you can chime in.

Does every student who applies for SCEA financial aid get the message to fill out CSS/IDOC? It is just so hard to imagine that the FA department will go through possibly thousands of applications and prepare FA packages for students who are not getting in.

Household Verification Form: I know this was a hot topic in previous years and has been debunked (on other forums) as untrue if asked to submit = youāre admitted. However, did anyone notice this form being asked for right from the get-go in CSS? Do you happen to know what this form is actually for? Do other schools also ask for this? I assume this is just asked to see if other siblings are going to college simultaneously??!! Not sure. Just curious what it means.

I read many times that in the RD round, many kids get called up and told they are likely admitted. But it does not happen in the SCEA round. Does anyone know anything different? Have you ever heard that an AO will contact you to inform you that you will likely get in the SCEA round (excluding athletes)?
Thanks
No, if youāre not a recruited athlete
Were some documents missing or incomplete?
I am not 100%, but I think anyone who indicates that they need FA on the Common App will automatically get a request for information and the FA office will track info submitted/missing. The FA office may not necessarily process what is submitted and make a determination until later in the process. Also as there is less subjectivity in determining FA vs admissions, I would guess the FA determination process is much less labor intensive in general.
Yes. Seems to be cleared up.
From what I recall from past posts about this, requesting financial info is not a ātea leavesā. There were posts from last year where people had that info requested and did not get in. I am coming to the realization that there really arenāt any tea leaves and we will save ourselves potential anxiety by just being patient for another month. No interview request here for us and daughter submitted around mid October so we are assuming she will not get an interview (no big deal either way from what Iāve read).
I assume they asked you to fill it out simply because you hadnāt already. Same goes for the Verification Form. I say this from experience with my older two - lots of schools will just remind you that you havenāt completed it. It probably shows up as an empty check box on their list so they are following up.
I also suspect nearly all applicants had it filled out prior to submitting their application. (I canāt remember Yaleās FA deadline, but itās often the same date as the application deadline.)
(Sorry to knock down what might have been high hopes.)
My D24 is still waiting for the interview email.
Same here. And everything points to it not being significant either way, so Iām not stressing it. Itās a busy time at our house the next few weeks, which Iām thankful for. No time to get anxious or overthink while we wait!
It still seems quiet in general as to interview invites. I also agree it is not a tea leaf anyway, but Iāve seen references to a lot more interviews for some other REA colleges.
