@brec2016 Not much, actually. I did a little bio research here and there but definitely not international competition type stuff or anything worthy of publishing.
anyone get an invitation yet?
@azhang40 No offense, but you seem really anxious about this. I’m not saying this because I want to put you down or because I want to crush your hopes and dreams, but I really think you should take a step back from this YES-W thing. Of 26,000 RD applicants, ~100 will be invited. No matter how cool you or anyone else is, NO ONE should expect an invitation. I might suggest that it would be in your best interest to take this week off of College Confidential. Just forget about it for now. If you get an invitation, that’s awesome, but numerically, it’s just not likely to happen. If I were you, I’d be a lot less anxious if I weren’t lurking around CC waiting to see if anyone else got one. I’m really suggesting this because I think it would make your week easier.
Then again, you are an adult and make your own decisions, so there’s nothing I can say to stop you. I just remember how stressful the whole college process was for me, and I think it would have been 100 times as stressful if I were aware that YES-W was a thing and I was hanging around to see when other people were invited.
@Bulldog2017 No offense, but I’m just really curious about this event. I am aware that I shouldn’t be expecting something at all (I’m not), but I’m genuinely interested in hearing about peers who are offered such a prestigious offer. Please don’t take my curiosity as anxiety or worry; my post count clearly indicates that I’m not on here all that a lot.
But thanks for your insight. I know you are just trying to speak from personal experience to assuage those currently in the college process.
@Bulldog2017 would you happen to know whether international students are even eligible for this program?
@bulldog2017 - can you also tell us please: what were some reasons you eventually chose Yale for STEM, and was YES-W a big ingredient in that?
Something to add in addition to the staggering number of applications. Last year at the welcome reception that was thrown for kids in our area that were accepted we were told that 50% of the applications that were received were STEM majors. The admissions officer said that it was the highest they had ever received and that the competition was incredibly steep. Add that to the fact that there are only 100 slots. I happen to agree with @bulldog2017 on this. The chances of being invited are so slim that to wait on someone being asked to attend this is much worse than even receiving an acceptance. You are talking about less than 1% of those that applied as a STEM major. It is not worth stressing over. This too may end up being holistic in its selection. If you are selected, wonderful and congratulations but if you are not it has no reflection on your candidacy as a Yale student.
I got the call today from my region’s admissions officer!!! I’m so excited omg
@ihave2020vision which region are you from?
@ihave2020vision and congrats!
Thanks! New York
Congratulations on your success! You have a lot to look forward to. Thank you for telling us they called.
Congrats! Is everyone contacted at the same time, or do they do it by region? (just wondering)
@ihave2020vision congrats! that’s awesome to hear.
@ihave2020vision Congrats! Also, did Yale post a change to your application status online? I heard they have in previous years.
@tiger2468 In the past its been over the span of a few days.
Thanks!!
@idkschool No that hasn’t changed–I got a link to log into the admitted students website/register for the weekend.
I got a call today about YES as well. Seems like most of the notifications are starting to go out! Best of luck to everyone and hope to see you all there.
