Question: would it be weird to bring up an invitation to YES during a Yale interview? By some strange coincidence I’m interviewing today. I feel like it’s pertinent information to include, but I also don’t want to come off as haughty or presumptuous.
You can play it one of 2 ways:
- Don't mention it, unless your interviewer brings it up (quite possible).
- Start off by mentioning that you just got a call about YES-W, and how excited you are about Yale.
Either should be fine.
@abstract1 Congrats! If you don’t mind, which state are you from?
Congratulations to those who got calls.
Interview becomes a moot point since the invitation is essentially an admission.
BTW - my son’s portal (or a page he printed for me that ends /portal/admits) does say “Welcome to Yale Class of 2020” - he just told me, actually it’s a different URLthat the guy who called told him.
I know if at least two more kids who got the call. One in NJ and one in NY.
Has anyone not from the East Coast been contacted?
^^ Did you see my previous post?
By non-east coast, I meant people from west coast or Midwest
Sorry I misread your post. My bad.
@lookforanswer, thanks! I’m from NJ.
did they already make all the calls or are they still contacting people over the next few days?
I don’t think anyone can answer this question, unfortunately. My guess is that they are not done with the process yet but again this is only a guess based upon what has happened in past years.
Yeah I don’t think anyone can really know, but congrats again to all those have been contacted!
Congrats to everyone has gotten a call! Boola Boola!!!
Calls usually continue to trickle in over about a week.
An extended family member on the West Coast got the call. They’re flying the student in.
We made the train reservations this weekend! @momof3sons - they do it in a nice way, with a travel agent website. So for example, we searched the train and then it was within the budget they set so we could “buy” it on Yale’s account right then. I’m assuming the flights for your family member will work the same way. Congrats!!
@fretfulmother Thanks! I’m sure that Yale will put it’s best foot forward in an attempt to get some of these students to seriously consider Yale. Congrats to your student!
Thank you!!
I was contacted last Tuesday. I have 5 friends in various parts of the country also contacted. And the invitation to YES-W is all expenses paid for all invitees. The new URL they give you does show "Welcome to class of 2020.’ Regarding interview, I asked the woman who called me if I should keep my interview appointment (which was scheduled for this week) and she said to cancel it…That there was no point unless I really wanted to meet with an alum. Since I would have had to drive 45 min, I canceled it. Hope this info helps.
