Yale Young Global Scholars 2018

I’ve been waiting for YGS decisions to come out for so long now and apparently they’ll be out in the next couple of days … I think it would be nice to have a thread for people to post decisions / stats and essays and ec’s just so people for the following years will have baseline stats and model apps to look at

Hey! Results are out and I got in. However, I’m not quite sure if YYGS is really worth it. It’s $3200 for just slightly over 2 weeks. I got accepted into a research program recommended by MIT that’s comparatively cheaper for 7 weeks and I think I’m going to that instead. I’ve read some other posts from the pasts and while none said it was a bad program, which, of course it isn’t, several said it wasn’t worth the money.

If you want my stats, I forget what exactly was required for the application but:
1500 PSAT, 1500 SAT then (it’s much higher now), 4.4 weighted GPA, taking 4 APs this year, got really good recommendations, won some awards for Scholastic Art & Writing Competition, volunteer at animal rescue, editor-in-chief of school newspaper, editor of school literary magazine, NHS member, teacher’s assistant in research class, but I think the biggest thing that got me in was probably research I did at Rutgers last summer. I did a bunch of labwork in genetics and did some bioinformatics too and ended up publishing 5 coding DNA sequence in NCBI.

I got into the Politics, Law, and Economics program but won’t be attending because the lack of financial aid.

I have a 4.3 weighted GPA, 5s on all the AP exams I’ve taken so far, taking 5 APs this year. I had some solid recs, I’m a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, English Honor Society, and History Honor Society. I’ve won some leadership and academic awards, and played field hockey for my school. I’m a seven-time national Model UN champion, and come from a political refugee family. What most likely got me in is that I’m the founder and president of my school’s mental health awareness club, and we’ve done a lot of work with the community when it comes to suicide prevention policies. I also volunteer with a local mental health org. Because of my work with my community, I was called upon by the School Board to serve on an advisory committee where I help draft resolution and offer my opinions as a student representative. I interned at a law firm, a law NGO in DC, and worked on a School Board campaign. My essays were really personal and relevant. Good luck everyone.

@axca88 6000— 3200 is just the first payment.

What exactly is the 2800 dollar ‘deposit’ for?

Just found out I got in too,
Was accepted last year but I just couldn’t go.
Hope to meet interesting people from all over the world, since I’m going from the Dominican Republic
Since everyone is giving their stats I’ll do mine
4.5 gpa
National honor
Varsity basketball
Most community service hours at school two years in a row
4 AP junior year
Camp Rising Sun, full scholarship
But what I guess pushed me over the edge, was a club I created to teach lower income adults to learn English free of charge, it has been a great success

Got into PLE. 3.95 UW GPA and ~4.65 W GPA, some average extracurriculars, 36 ACT, 800 Math and US History SAT II.

Accepted to IAS.

Current sophomore with a 4.0 UW/4.67 W GPA. Around 7 clubs with chair positions in 3 of them. I had a relatively low PSAT score (1310) and had recommendations from teachers I barely knew; my essays were most likely what the admissions team saw as my strong point.

I got wait listed for ASE. Is everyone here applying from the US?

@studentlollie I am. But, U.S kids actually have a lower acceptance rate than everyone else.

anyone accepted to ASE??

how do you know if you are wait listed ?

does anyone know if there are any facebook groups yet? I was accepted to BBS!

check your email and there should be an email that says “update to your applicaion status.” If it’s not there, log in to the same place you submitted your application and use the same login.

does anyone know how much chance there is of getting off of the waitlist?

how are y’all travelling?

@GustavoDR did you go to camp rising sun. i dont know how to pm you,

Hey! I’m very new to this… I’m from the UK so I’ve never used this site before but just wanted to say that I got accepted into YYGS for the ASE programme!! I can’t believe it! Is anybody else doing it too?

I have no idea what any of these GPA or APs mean but if you understand British qualifications then I achieved 14 As last year for my GCSEs and targeted to achieve 4 As for my A Levels.

I’m so glad that I’m getting a full scholarship to the programme from the British government, it’s going to be an experience I’m never going to forget; I’ve only ever been to the USA once!

And as someone else previously said, is there any sort of group for YYGS goers to communicate to each other on?

Can anyone help me decide between Wharton’s LBW and Yale’s Global Scholars program?
Thanks in advance for your help.
