I want to major in Economics at Yale. Do I have ANY shot of getting in on monday? I've posted chance threads in the past, but NOBODY gave me predictions that were as dire as my actual results. I don't want USC to actually be my University of Second Choice... thanks.

I'd say you definitely have a shot
however, Yale is hard to get into for everyone on earth..
so you shouldn't be sad or ashamed if you didn't get in eventually
YOU ARE AMAZING
Good luck and keep up with the good work

I'm going to be objective, so don't be resentful.

There's nothing about you that stands out. You appear to be just a moderately well-rounded candidate; you rank is ok, your SAT scores are ok, your extracurriculars are ok. But that's it.

There are probably two conditions under which you'll get in:

You're one of the top 5 or so candidates from Oregon.

You have amazing essays.

Sorry, but I don't think you have a very good chance. I think USC is a definite match, though.

Yale is tough for every applicant--but a bit less so for those from Oregon. Much may depend upon your teacher recs. I hope that you are admitted to Yale. By the way, is it customary to practice large, loud band type instruments early in the morning prior to class, especially on big-game days? If so, I know some Harvard alums that would love to assist in your effort to attend Yale. Good luck!

I thought 1200 hrs/year of ECs was better than okay, is all.

I'd rather people were objective. I've posted many chance threads, and not a single person out of dozens thought I wouldn't get into Reed; I was waitlisted. People gave me great odds at UCLA; I was rejected. I tried looking over my housing options at USC to make me feel better, but it turns out I can't afford any housing with AC. Blegh.

ok, objective: i honestly don't think you'll get in. you show a lot of dedication, but most of the admitted people i've seen have more awards and extracurriculars that go beyond their school and a much higher class rank. and most yale applicants have your scores. that said, i'm not a college student or an admissions officer so don't pay any attention to me. they might want you for their marching band, maybe. good luck!

Class rank.

Most people applying to Yale are usually within the Top 1%.

I do like your EC's though, you're fine with them (Not everyone has to win the Nobel, for Pete's sake!)

Bump up your SATs a bit as well. - Oh never mind, I just read senior. Well, like the others have said, nothing really is super.

holy crap. when i make my chances thread i will not ask for "objective"

You'll regret it if you don't, trust me.

Yeah, my school is competitive. I've gotten 3 Bs in all of high school, and there are 17 people above me. I got 5 weighted As and 3 unweighted As last semester, and it brought my rank from 19th to 18th. There's also some controversy because kids like me who took Model UN or Electric Band outside of school had their weighted GPAs lowered by doing extra work... as an A in an unweighted class brings down a 4.0+ GPA.

Maybe I should have whined about it in my personal statement, but I hate whining.

bandtenhut, I have the same problem at my school. I have like 10 classes more than anyone else in my grade and thus my GPA is lower even though I have very few B's.

as for what I think of your chances. not good and not bad. I'm guessing maybe waitlist. sorry for such a downer.
