How many years did you get? My letter gave says four, which is sick because living off campus is expensive.

Here's how it typically goes:

1st Year: On Campus
2nd Year: On Campus
3rd Year: Off Campus
4th Year: On Campus

That is what I was told when I visited earlier this year

yeah i heard that too, they said they offered 4 years for me though guaranteed.

My D was offered 4 years. Maybe because we live in CA?

My son was guaranteed four years. We are from Western NY

My D also 4 years - we are also in California

If a students live in MA does he have to live on campus?

Yes, unless you marked on your application that you would be commuting, in which case very few people are accepted regardless of stats.

Why do they make it mandatory to live on Campus for freshmen?

I live in like about 20 miles away from Boston and on my application, I mentioned that I want to live on Campus. But now my family is planning to move to Boston this summer. Now, if I get accepted, do I have to live on campus or I can live with my family?

You're going to want to call someone in the Student Services department and talk with them about it. I'm sure they can give you a better answer and perhaps make an exception.

I got 3 years

I got 4 years

3 years
but one year off campus should be fun

So, do they tell you in your acceptance letter how many years of housing you get? I've heard that it's based on your SAT score with the higher scores getting 4 years on the main campus and everyone else getting 3 years with freshman year on Newton campus. I've also heard that the lower SAT scores get tripled up in doubles if necessary due to overenrollment. Doesn't seem right for 50K!

Did I miss the housing part in the letter? Can someone give me some details on where to find it?

D Got 4 years housing on campus. It is towards the end of the acceptance letter.

Capemom, housing is not determined by SAT scores. Several years ago, my D was accepted with 4 years housing. She had very high SAT scores and was assigned to the Newton campus (which she loved). There is no correlation between test scores and housing assignments.

We went to early admit day in Jan and the person who gave the tour stated that 4 years vs 3 was due to SAT's/grades stats. The assignment to Newton vs Upper is based on preference when you sign up for housing. My D told me that she was told during her what to expect session that if you said you would force triple, you would be guaranteed Upper Campus.

Lots of kids choose Newton. Some kids don't get there first preference. But which dorms Upper vs Newton have nothing to do with Grades/SAT's.

I am not 100% certain that 4 years vs 3 of guarantee has anything to do with it either. My D was guarantee 4 years, and is a premed/bio major. These majors typically do not get to go abroad in there 3rd year, maybe this has something to do with it.

Okay...

Grades have absolutely 0% to do with Netwon/Upper. But you are correct when you say that the only forced triples are on Upper.

If you are in a certain top percentage of applicants you get 4 years. Typically (very typically) those who get in EA get 4 years. After that, it is completely random- i.e. outside of the top 10ish% of applicants, it is completely random as to who gets 3/4 years.

Your acceptance letter will tell you how many years of guaranteed on-campus housing you will get. Half of the students get 4 years and the other half get 3 years.

The decision as to who gets 3 years and who gets 4 years is determined by a number of factors. Those in the top 15% academically get 4 years. (That’s where GPA and test scores come in, as some have noted.) All nursing students get 4 years (to make it easier for them to get to their clinical assignments), and all international students also get 4 years. There are also some other designated groups, but I don’t recall them right now. After the designated groups have been assigned 4 years, if there are still beds left, the assignment of 4 years of housing becomes random.

The assignment of Newton vs. Upper Campus has absolutely nothing to do with the number of years of guaranteed housing. In the summer, all incoming freshmen will fill out a short housing questionnaire and be given a chance to state their preference as to which campus. If you request Newton, you will almost certainly get it, because there is usually more demand for Upper Campus than there are beds there.
