Years you have skipped academically?

Just curious. How many years you have skipped academically?

It could be full years or in certain academic classes.
I skipped 2 years of math and accelerated in science. I didn't skip any full year.

I know some of those amazing people that skipped 1-2 full years AND skip more in certain classes. Like this girl I know skipped 2 full years and currently taking Pre-Calc as freshman. So technically she skipped 5 years of math. She is also accelerated in science.

I come across these people so frequently that I am curious if this is common.

Thanks for your input.

I’m a year or two ahead in math than most other sophomores.

None. Took BC senior year and nearly died.

I didn’t do it personally but i dont think it would be too big of a deal to skip earlier grades. Think about all the times in elementary and junior high that you just sat bored in class either spacing out or reading a book or something because the material was so slow and easy.

Like if there was a school that tutored you individually for 8 hours a day 5 days a week at your pace, i bet you could finish elementary through junior high in like 4 years

Well I started school early cause Italy didnt have a specific kindergarten age.
Then moved back to the states and skipped 4th grade.

I’ve been in accelerated math since 3rd grade and finishing Pre-Cal this semester and starting Calculus 1&2 for next semester. Taking differential equations & calculus 3 this summer (if I feel like it…)

At my local university I’m taking Physics with Calculus 1&2 then a Thermodynamics class and maybe Quantum Mechanics this summer.
Ohhh, & I’m a sophmore girl.

Yea, I think it probably more common than most people think cause in my group of friends alone 4 of them have skipped a grade somewhere down the line.

In my county if you’re remotely intelligent they “encourage” your parents to put you on accelerated track and whatever. It’s kind of crazy.

Uhh, most people in my grade are in French IV, but I’m in AP French?

Too bad language is subjective and less structured than regular classes.

why is that crazy?

you are taking calc 3 and then diff. eq. though right?

Skipped a year of science, currently in two AP sciences as a jr.
Skipped some math, in Calc AB jr year. (easy class…)</p>

Oh, and I took APUSH as a sophomore, the only soph in my class. I was also the only 5 :)

I’m 3 years ahead in math, 3 in science, 1 in Spanish, 1 in English, and 1 in history, but I’ve never skipped a whole grade.

For my district I’m one year ahead in math.

I also tested out of / skipped German III.

There are a few kids in my school who take BC as a freshman. One kid somehow successfully petitioned the school to allow him to take AP Physics C and AP Chem as a sophomore too.

i havent skipped a grade, but im supposed to be a sophomore based on my age and where i go to school, im a junior tho
i took ap bio in 8th while most take it in 10th or 11th, i took ap chem in 9th while most take it in 11th or 12th, i took ap phys c mech and e&m in 10th while most take it in 12th, i took ap calc bc in 10th while most take it in 11th or 12th, im in ap spanish and apush this year, which is pretty normal, and im in ap stats which most take in 12th which prolly doesnt count tho since its a slacker class, ap comp sci in 10th was pretty normal too although there were a lot of juniors too, all 5s ftw
pretty good for a kid who was in alg 1 in 8th grade but who self-studied geo and alg 2 to be in precalc in 9th, which is like 1-2 years ahead

@sketchedout - Its crazy cause I just think I did alot to be so young. I mean I’m fine or whatever but I could’ve did without all the extra classes in elementary and middle school.

Yea Calculus 3 then diff. eq. but there’s two summer terms so I’m taking both…I think.

Jersey13 is that tjhsst cuz some dude from there was talking bout that

nothing impressive, but I’m in accelerated (well, was, before I dual enrolled) math (took Alg II in Sophomore year when the standard is Junior) and Spanish.

I’m doing dreadfully in my intermediate algebra class at the college though, when it’s relatively easier concepts than Alg II… =/ I’m a fake smart person haha

that is pretty amazing jai103, i am a freshman in college and i still havent taken diff eq.! lol so you are years ahead

Thanks  I know a 12 year old kid in my Calc. class next semester so I’m not the amazing one lol smh. But if you don’t mind me asking, what college do you go to?

I skipped 1-2 years in math (Calc as freshman, AB(should have been BC) as a sophomore), and 1 year in science (AP Chem/Physics as Sophomore). I ended up skipping 11th grade because of it.

Not accelerated at all.

But my elementary/middle school was for “gifted” kids… apparently we all just studied subjects more deeply.

I skipped zero years of school, and I’m actually none the worse for it, aside from a few salient personality defects.

I did, however, begin school one year early (well, it’s actually just that I have a late birthday), and by the time senior year rolled around, I was basically done with secondary school, as I don’t think I learned much of value, unless you count learning how to dance to a variety of foolish hip hop songs as such.

However, I can dougie pretty damn well, so I guess that it is quite an accomplishment.

:)

P.S. I needed to comment on this:

I am a freshman in college, and I am taking diff eq and will be taking the course on their biological application next semester. :frowning: Folks, if you’re as bad at math as I am, don’t do it. Respect your sanity!
