I just got a 1900 on the only test a person can't fail!!!! I'm so proud of myself!!! Afterall, who wants to go to a good school like Northwestern and get a better job later on? Its hip to go to a crappy school and wind up becoming a loser who lives in a box (albeit a very very nice box).

If you couldn't tell, I'm being sarcastic. Should I basically give up on northwestern? I got 1900 (660 CR, 650 M (shocking), 590 W (about what I always get)). I heard NU doesn't care as much about writing, but is 1310 even close to being decent? I have a decent GPA (probably around 3.85 by the end of high school in the hardest classes), but its these dang standardized tests (SAT and ACT science section) that are going to keep me from getting anywhere.

your math and writing aren't abysmal... actually, they're just on the lower end of accepted students.
Are you a junior? because if you are then you have plenty of chances to retake and improve.

hah, i'm applying with a 1330/1980 (not really expecting to get in) but you wont know unless you try. i mean, someone has to be in that lower 25% of the scores right?

^sure. i dont want to sound cynical, but that "someone" usually = URMs, recruited athletes, developmental cases, and legacies. but you never know...if you're lucky and NW sees something in you, they may just look beyond lower-end scores.

itsmike and california_love8, you've heard the Gretzky saying that I may be about to butcher: "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Go for it. You have nothing to lose and you may find yourselves with a fat envelope in your mailboxes.

Good luck! I hope there are kids from both ends of the spectrum; it makes for a much more interesting student body if you ask me.

My SAT score was 640 V / 670 M / 700 W and I got in to NU (Medill) for early decision.

Test scores aren't everything; you just have to compensate for lower ones with other things. People tend to magnify the importance of standardized test scores.

IMHO, colleges take a longer look at the academic courses you've taken for four years and the extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or job you've devoted hours of your time to, rather than the score of a four hour test that isn't necessarily an accurate indicatior of your intelligence.

that gives me hope since i got 700m 630v .. do you think the engineering school is less competitive in terms of scores? because that's where i applied to

shut up...seriously...i got an 1860 COME ON! And I'm applying to music which wants nutz sat's...you guys are like "omg i missed 300 points and my life is over! oh noez!"...honestly, a genius can bomb the sat. it measures nothing lol.

lol i went from an 1860 to a 2140. it will just take an entire summer of exclusivey studying the SAT/doing excs to fatten up that list ull fill up later. I knew i wouldnht be able to self study so i took a class where i went from 830-2. It sucked but i did what i had to do

well i got 2020 and its the highest in my school ! lol .. by the way, where does it say that writing scores are less important. I know it is pretty much understood, but it seems that northwestern seems to put more emphasis on them than some of its counterparts - they require it while most make it optional.

thats very solid. i believe the range is about 2k to 21k for sat. If i were u, give up on the SAT and just take the ACT again and shoot for a 31 and ur good to go
