Yes or no to International Experience? Please help! :D

Hi!!
I'm currently in the 8th grade, and I want to apply for BS for the 9th grade (2010-2011 year), so I'm preparing myself, and I just wanted to know, will Boarding Schools like Deerfield, Exeter, Milton, look for or against international experience?
My SO far international experience covers living in:
Central America, South America, Canada, US, Europe and Asia, living in each from about one year to 3 years.

Also, I'm asian, and I know the acceptance rate for international students are lower also, right?

And of course, here are my stats! Please tell me what are my chances, you can tell the truth, I really won't get offended :)!!

[Average GPA (from 6th and 7th):] 3.70

I'll put up my 7th grade grades, because during 6th and below, I got all A's except one B (I'm not showing off lol, the classes were just super easy)

[Core classes grades:]

Social Studies: A
Math: B+ (and this is crucial too, I heard that they look at math the most.. OMG. But all my grades before in math were A, A, A :( )
Science: B+ (once again, lacking grades in the crucial subjects)
English: A
PE: A
Art: A-

[Other classes:]
Two years of orchestra, top class: A+ (Instruments played: Saxophone (2 1/2 years), Cello (1 year), Piano (8 years, not as good as you think I'd be though)

Spanish (One year): A+ (I took Spanish with the high schoolers, skipped a few classes because of my international experience in south+central america. Other languages I speak are English <duh> and Korean)</duh>

Drama (One year): B+ (oops.. I think I'm not the world's best actor :P)

Speech and Debate (one semester): A-

Computer (one semester): A

Yearbook (one year) (chief editor): A

[Awards:]

Best English Student Award (given out two per grade)

Best Korean Student Award (same as above)

Sportsmanship Award

[Extra:]

I took two years of tae-kwon-do, and am currently the second dan, black belt
I signed up for MUN this year (8th grade): one year.

[Teacher Recommendations]

All good, even science and math (surprisingly). Most said that I was a great role model student, just needed to speak up more.

I know I'm a naturally shy person, and I think that's because I move around too much and don't have time to make super BFFs and stuff. That's also one of the reason I want to go to BS, because for FOUR solid years I can live in the same community (never lived a place that long)

[Community Service/Charity]
Did a lot of work at kitchens, cooking food to be delivered to nursery homes
I also did trash picking near polluted rivers, and delivering these lamp-things for the elderly that live in the countryside.

All totaling up to about 75 hours more or less? I know that's not a lot, sorry :(

I also did sponsered an African girl so that she can go to school, learn to read and write and have cooking utensils for her family.

Also donated blood for charity, did a lot of phone-donations, doll donations, clothing donations, etc.

[Standardized Testing]
I haven't taken anything big like the SSATs or TOEFL, but have taken the IOWA test during elementary, Standford tests in Middle School. All great results, mostly saying "Hannah is above 99% of her students" :)
I am planning to take the SSAT this November!

That's all!
If you think I lack anything or should work harder on something, feel free to tell me! I appreciate everyone's opinion! Thank you so much!! :D

You have really good stats and the fact that you have lived other places and can speak another language helps. I wish you good luck in your 8th grade year and applying!!!

P.S. I’m applying for Exeter and Andover for the 2010-2011 year too.
(Hopefully I’ll see you there)

are you in any clubs?

and you want to become a LOT more outgoing for you interview. they look for bright, enthusiatic students and if you sit in a corner and mumble i am pretty sure they won’t accept you.

urbanflop: Thanks for reply!! I hope to meet you in Exeter or Andover too lol :):)

preppychica36: Thank you for your reply also!! I was in a lot of clubs, like newspaper, yoga, calligraphy, and photoshop advanced club!
I know that during my interview that they don’t look for shy people, but the really strange thing is during interviews I talk really enthusiastically, but in front of others, like students, I’m kind of shy. But I don’t think I can go for a face-to-face interview, I think I have to do a phone interview (I don’t live near US or UK). Do you think doing a phone interview lowers my chances?

Thanks :)

i don’t think it matters. someone else also asked the same question and they were told that it isn’t really fortunate, but it won’t matter since it’s not your fault. so phone interviews don’t really lower your chances of getting in. good luck.

They don’t want a full school of kids who are trying to interrupt each other the whole time either. They WANT a number of quiet or quaint kids, they bring a completely different perspective to the school. Be yourself.

wow!!!i feel like im seeing a smart but younger version of me~~ ive lived in about 4 countries since my birth~~ good luck w/ andover n exeter i was wondering the same thing w/ international experience … n can people help w/ my question i know this is another persons question but thought people here could help me:)
